Eric Aledort


Senior Vice President, Business Development and Strategic Partnership Marketing

As senior vice president of business development and strategic partnership marketing, Eric Aledort has responsibility for two key functions. These include all business development activities, which focus on distribution and technology alliances that enable the widespread content distribution of all Internet properties of The Walt Disney Company. In addition, Aledort oversees the business unit's strategic partner marketing efforts, which consists of relationships with key sponsors and Disney corporate alliance partners, and working with the Internet properties' sales teams in coordinating cross-property sales and sponsor efforts.

Aledort joined the Walt Disney Internet Group in 1996. Prior to his current post, he served as vice president, e-commerce business development and vice president, business and legal affairs. During his tenure with the Internet business, Aledort has taken a lead role in policy with a focus on privacy for children. He has also served as executive counsel for the Walt Disney Internet Group, acting as lead counsel for Disney Online and the unit's International operations.

Before joining Disney, Aledort was the international counsel for Immuno AG, an Austrian biotechnology company, where he acted as the lead negotiator for Immuno's international acquisitions and partnerships. He has also worked in the New York office of Sidley and Austin.

Aledort holds a B.A. from Vassar College, an M.A. from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.

John Battelle


Founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer

John Battelle is an entrepreneur, journalist, professor, and author who has founded or co-founded businesses, magazines and websites. Formerly at the Graduate School of Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley, Battelle, 41, is also a founder and Executive Producer of the Web 2.0 conference and "band manager" with BoingBoing.net. Previously, Battelle was founder, Chairman, and CEO of Standard Media International (SMI), publisher of The Industry Standard and TheStandard.com. Prior to founding The Standard, Battelle was a co-founding editor of Wired magazine and Wired Ventures. John is currently the founder and Chairman of Federated Media.

Battelle recently wrote The Search: How Google and Its Rivals Rewrote the Rules of Business and Transformed Our Culture (Penguin/Portfolio), an international bestseller published in 24 languages. He maintains Searchblog, a daily site covering the intersection of media, technology and the internet at www.battellemedia.com.

Battelle was a founding Board member of the Online Publishers Association and sits on the board of the Interactive Advertising Bureau, as well as the Board of his children's school.

Battelle was named a "Global Leader for Tomorrow" by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He was a finalist in the "Entrepreneur of the Year" competition by Ernst & Young and has recently been named an "Innovator," one of ten best marketers in the business, by Advertising Age and one the the "Most Important People on The Web" by PCWorld. He holds a bachelor's and a master's degree from the University of California, Berkeley.

Wang Chao was born in Beijing in 1970 and graduated from Beijing University of Technology.

In 1994, he joined China Computer World (CCW);

During his employment at CCW, the leading media of IT industry in China, he wrote many influential articles based on interviews with major IT vendors and industry authorities both home and abroad.

In 1997, he became Chief Editor of CEO & CIO China;

While IT is increasingly reforming the operation and management of enterprises, Wang Chao founded CEO & CIO China magazine in 1997 and became the chief editor, aiming to promote business & management philosophies in the information era and deliver successful experiences to add value to the enterprises. Over the past four years, CEO & CIO China has introduced brand new western management philosophies to the Chinese enterprises (such as management theory jungle, business process reengineering (BPR), knowledge management (KM), learning organization, enterprise resource planning (ERP), venture capital (VC), e-commerce, new economy and modern logistics, customer relationship management (CRM), etc), and discussed how these advanced philosophies have changed the management practices of the Chinese enterprises. In April 2007, he became CEO of Norstar Media, which operates three business lines through IT168.com, Che168.com and United Data Catalog (UDC), with IT168.com as the core, and mainly provides product information and shopping guide services.

In the past years, Wang Chao has received several honors and awards from the Ministry of Information Industry and the media. He has been selected as one of the Ten Most Influential Person for China's IT Industry in the 21st Century, and established his reputation in business management and IT based on keen insight, analysis capability and understanding of the industry trend. Besides, he has unique ideas on the development of China's media companies in the trend of revolution.

Katharina Borchert


WAZ Mediagroup

Katharina Borchert is a passionate storyteller, adventurer and technology addict turned blogger turned journalist turned online editor-in-chief of the WAZ Mediagroup that features Germany's largest key regional publications like "Westdeutsche Allgemeine". The WAZ Mediagroup is Germany´s second biggest publisher.

Ms. Borchert has been hired in 2006 to completely reinvent their Internet platform (for these major publications) - setting a benchmark for the industry - creating new ways of connecting on- and offline communities, interaction and exchange. The goal is to create a brand new virtual home for all the readers and interested clientele that want to engage in the discussion with the 900 editors working in the 90 local offices in the region.

Ms. Borchert was also the key adviser to the German chancellor, Angela Merkel on how to effectively use the Internet/Web 2.0 platform to communicate effectively. Angela Merkel was the first head of government to create a regular video blog.

Ms. Borchert also ran an Internet community with guest bloggers from all over the world for Coca Cola last year during the World Cup in Berlin.
