Fun photography projects you can do with your kids

Hi! I'm Tracey Clark.

Kids love to learn by doing, and to create things with their own hands. Shooting digital photos and making photo projects lets them do both.

Digital photography also encourages young ones to focus and discover the world around them.

Today I'll share some ideas for photo activities and projects that you and your kids can do together.

They're fun for the whole family!

A picture scavenger hunt can help younger children make the leap between abstract ideas and the things they represent, and it makes an everyday outing a journey of discovery.

Each time you go out, encourage your child to focus on a single subject or theme and snap away.

The bonus for parents is that a photo hunt provides a window into how your child sees the world, and the results can be used in all kinds of enjoyable projects.

We'll get to that in a minute.

For kids who are a little older, digital photography can help make school projects more interesting, exciting, and educational. Take this picture here:

With a camera, my daughter can add flare to her science projects. And digital photos can help make a book report really pop!

They also love snapping photos when we visit places like historical sites. It brings what they're learning in school to life.

Putting together a photo book is a fun and lasting way for kids to organize their memories and express their creativity and it's easy.

I just go online to Snapfish. They've got a tool we can use to customize the perfect photo book.

We can add as many photos as we would like and choose what size, what color, and even what kind of cover. And, with a couple of clicks, it's on its way to be delivered to your door.

How cool would it be to create a custom coloring book page out of any of your digital photos?

Several HP cameras have a great feature called Design Gallery that lets you do this. It's simple.

Just choose a photo you would like to turn into a coloring page. In the playback menu, choose the Drawing effect option.

Save it and then print it out like a normal photo but use a standard sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper.

Voila! Instant coloring book page!

When you're done, you have a fun and totally new way to relive your memories.

Kids enjoy keeping track of important dates, especially their birthdays and allowance paydays.

It helps them learn organizational skills around everyday tasks too, like chores.

With a little help from you, and some favorite digital photos, creating a personalized photo calendar is a snap.

You can find a ton of photo projects online at the HP Activity Center. Just choose a digital photo you want to use, upload it, customize your project, and print. It's so cool.

It literally takes minutes to get from start to fabulous finish. These are the photo calendars we've made.

Not only are they fun to create; they're treasures that will be cherished long after your kids are all grown up. And they grow up so fast. I hope these ideas inspire you and your kids as much as they have mine.

I'm Tracey Clark. And I'll see you next time.
