Introduction

These days billions of pictures are shared with family and friends via social networking sites like MySpace. But when your sister posts photos of the new baby to her Facebook page, how do you print a few copies for yourself? Learn how HP photo printing solutions and products make it easy to print high-quality digital pictures from social networking sites.

HP + MySpace=photo printing simplified

MySpace photo page
Use the HP "Print" button on MySpace to print single pictures or a page full of smaller pictures.
HP has partnered with MySpace to introduce photo printing and other creative options to the popular social networking site.

Just click the "Print" box on your MySpace photo page to access a printer-friendly version that can be printed from your home printer.

You can print singular pictures or a page full of smaller pictures. You even have the option to make a calendar or a photo cube with your images.

Although you can change the image size by using your HP printer's print settings, you won't get a borderless print. And your MySpace photos will print with the MySpace logo on the photo print page.

Print photos from Facebook

Facebook website
You can print 4" x 6" photo prints from your Facebook pictures.

HP Photo Value Packs are an easy way to get ink and paper in one economical package.
Facebook images can be a bit tricky to print because of photo print resolution.

You can upload large, high-quality photos. But Facebook compresses the image file to about 30 KB to reduce the amount of bandwidth used–with a maximum resolution of about 600 x 600 pixels.

Technically, a 600 x 400 pixel image can produce a 4" x 6" print. And we were able to print great 4" x 6" pictures from Facebook with a hardly noticeable drop in quality when compared to the photos printed at their original, full-quality resolution.

Remember to use top-quality ink and paper that's made for your printer to get the best quality prints. For 4" x 6" prints as low as 24 cents per print, check out HP Photo Value Packs like the HP Custom 02 Series Value Pack with with Vivera inks and 4" x 6" HP Advanced Photo Paper.1

Download pictures to your desktop

web photo being saved to desktop
Just right click on an image to save or print social networking photos using Windows Vista.
It's simple to save images from a social networking site to your computer desktop or photo library. Then you can print them using your photo-imaging or HP photo printer software.

  • If you are using a PC, you can right click on the image to bring up a menu that allows you to choose to "Save Photo As" or "Print Picture."
  • If you are using a Mac, you can right click on the image and save it to your desktop or your iPhoto library. You can then print the picture from iPhoto to your HP Photosmart printer.

Make sure to set the right print sizes–4" x 6" or smaller–if you are printing images from sites like Facebook. And use the proper print/paper quality settings.

From your Flickr page to your HP Photosmart printer tray: The HP Photo Print Gadget makes it easy.
Another easy way to print Facebook or any other Web photos is to use the HP Photo Print Gadget for Windows Vista

Just drag and drop your photos onto the gadget that sits on your computer desktop–the HP Photo Print Gadget will automatically format and print a borderless photo.

The Gadget uses a technology called "Smart Crop" to center your picture without cropping away the important parts.

Again, if you are printing from Facebook, you'll want to stick with 4" x 6" pictures rather than the larger options.

Download the HP Photo Print Gadget and discover just how easy photo printing can be!
