Tips for taking your passport photo
One important rule for taking your passport photo is to stand against a plain white or off-white background.
Follow this composition checklist for passport photos that meet U.S. requirements:
- Make sure photo presents your full head, from top of hair to bottom of chin; height of head should measure 1" to 1 3/8" (25 mm to 35 mm).
- Make sure your head is centered within the frame and eyes are open.
- Make sure eye level is between 1 1/8" and 1 3/8" (28 mm and 35 mm) from bottom of photo.
- Stand against a plain white or off-white background.
- Make sure lighting does not create any distracting shadows on the face or background.
- Have a natural expression.
