A pink photo board on brown wall

Introduction

Whether you need ideas for an upcoming project, a dose of creative motivation, or a little help reaching a goal, having a source of inspiration to draw upon can be incredibly valuable. HP has everything you need to easily print photos and other images to make your own inspiration board.

Use your photo board in a variety of ways

Wedding photo inspiration board
Establish the mood and tone of your wedding with an inspiration board, such as the one seen here by Cassandra Lavalle (cocokelley.blogspot.com/).

Design inspiration board
Katherine Black (kathblack.blogspot.com) pulled together images from various sources for this living room decor inspiration board.
An inspiration board is a group of photos and other images assembled together, usually on a bulletin board, used to inspire and motivate. There are several reasons why you might want to create your own:

Reach a goal–Create an inspiration board as extra encouragement.
  • Compete in a marathon: Include photos of athletes, finish lines, or a pair of desirable new running shoes.
  • Adopt a healthier lifestyle: Add images of healthy meals, yoga poses, or calming nature scenes.

Plan an event–Ensure your special event is all you dreamed it would be.
  • Wedding: Incorporate dress designs, possible wedding colors, honeymoon spots, flowers, and more.
  • Dream vacation: Use travel photos, old maps, and hotel ads to help plan your trip or inspire the perfect locale.

Encourage creativity–Use a photo board to stir your imagination.
  • Make a board focusing entirely on color, texture, or a specific theme.
  • Take "before" pictures of a room you'd like to redecorate, and, next to them, add photos that will help inspire the "after" results.

HP Photosmart printers offer a range of features to help you easily print photos and images for your inspiration board.

  • Several HP Photosmart printers, such as the HP Photosmart Premium Web All-in-One, allow you to edit and print your photos using a touchscreen display-no PC required.
  • Print some images in black and white or sepia to create contrast within your photo board.
  • Scan and print photos of cherished objects, slides and negatives, or magazine clippings using an HP Photosmart All-in-One.
  • You never know when inspiration will strike. Take photos for your board using your camera phone or other handheld device. You can even use the HP iPrint Photo application to wirelessly print photos from your iPhone or iPod touch.

Assemble your inspiration board

If you don't have the room for a bulletin board, you can always improvise! Photo courtesy of Deanna Staffo (mischiefandmadness.blogspot.com).
Just as there is more than one way to become inspired, there is more than one way to arrange your photo board prints.

  • Traditional bulletin boards and pushpins are great no-fuss options.
  • Purchase corkboard or hardboard at your local arts and crafts store and use an old (or new) frame as a stylish border.
  • Instantly transform the side of your fridge into an inspiration board using magnets.
  • Don't have the space for a large bulletin board? Utilize the space you do have by hanging your photos from ribbon or string using clothespins or clips.

Position your photo board in the right spot

Whether in the office, the bedroom, or your kitchen, it's important to place your photo inspiration board in a place where you'll be able to see it at the opportune times. For instance:

  • When trying to reach a personal goal, place your board in a spot where you can view it in a quiet, more reflective setting, such as your bedroom or even the inside of your closet door.
  • The office or home office is an ideal spot when your board is helping you plan an event where a sudden moment of inspiration could necessitate a phone call or e-mail.
  • Lastly, remember that a photo board can go in any location that's helpful to you. Wherever you need inspiration is where your board should be found.
