Many options for photo printing

These days, you have lots of options for printing digital photos. For example, you can make a few quick prints using a home photo printer, visit a retail location and get prints while you shop, or order your prints from Snapfish, HP's online photo service.

Which option is best?

With all these choices, you might wonder which is your best bet. The answer will differ depending on your specific needs. Here are some guidelines:

Use a home photo printer when:

  • You need a few prints or a small batch of prints
  • You need the prints immediately
  • You want to make minor edits to the photos without a PC
  • You don't want to use a PC

Use the retail option when:

  • You're shopping at a store with an HP Photosmart Express or HP Photosmart Studio kiosk

  • You don't mind waiting for your photos while you shop

  • You're purchasing photo products only available at retail locations, such as photo collages or 12" x 12" albums

Order online from Snapfish when:

  • You have a big batch of photos to print
  • You'd like your photos delivered to your door
  • You don't have a home photo printer
  • You'd prefer the convenience of ordering online
  • You'd like to order custom photo gifts such as calendars and mugs
  • You want the lowest cost option at 12 cents per print
  • You want to easily share your photos with others

Snapfish, an excellent alternative, provides high-quality prints for only 12 cents each. And Snapfish provides online photo sharing, too. If you think Snapfish might be a good option for you, we'll show you how easy it is to get your pictures delivered to your door.

Step 1: Upload your photos

Snapfish offers free, unlimited storage of online photos, so you'll never run out of space. When you upload photos to Snapfish, a copy is placed in your online account, so your original photos remain intact. There are two ways to upload your photos.

QuickUpload (Mac or PC)

Snapfish designed a tool to get your photos from your computer, camera, or disc into your Snapfish account-fast. You only have to download the QuickUpload tool once. Then, simply add your photos in batches instead of one-by-one.

One-by-One Upload

If you'd prefer not to download the QuickUpload tool, choose the one-by-one option.

Uploading tips

  • The QuickUpload tool accepts the following file types: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, .jpe), BMP (.bmp), Zip file (.zip, containing JPEGs). When uploading one-by-one, you may use JPEG and zip files.

  • Whichever file type you use, your photos will be converted to JPEG before they're added to your Snapfish account.

  • If you plan to order prints from the photos you are uploading, Snapfish recommends the following guidelines:

Print size Minimum resolution
4" x 6" 540 x 360 pixels
(2MP)
5" x 7" 550 x 393 pixels
(3MP)
8" x 10" 960 x 770 pixels
(6MP)

Step 2: Fix and enhance

Improve your pictures in minutes with the easy-to-use editing tools at Snapfish. You can also add captions, decorative borders, and use tints to change the mood of your pictures.

Remove red-eye. Say goodbye to glowing eyes on people and pets.

Crop. Think of cropping as a way of zooming in on the best part of a photo. It's an easy way to turn an average picture into an amazing one.

Enhance contrast and color. When you choose "auto correct," Snapfish's color corrector will adjust your photo for the best possible brightness, color balance, and intensity. When you select "auto contrast," Snapfish's contrast corrector will adjust your photo for the best possible color contrast.

Rotate and flip. If pictures weren't facing the right way when you uploaded them, you can rotate or flip them with this tool.

Add captions. Tell a story with your photos for your friends and family to enjoy. Even a few words can make a big impact.

Add decorative borders. Choose from a wide variety of designs and add flair to your photos-perfect for printing or viewing.

Add tints. Change the look and feel of your pictures by altering the color. Try sepia for an antiqued look, or black-and-white to add sophistication.
