You can add clip art, save the altered image, and then add frames or other effects.
All you need is an HP Photosmart A646 Compact Photo Printer–the clip art feature is built right in.
  • Touch View and Print on the Photosmart menu.
  • Navigate to the photo you wish to edit, and then touch Effect.
  • Touch the Clip Art creative option. Use the onscreen arrows to navigate to this option if it is not visible.
  • Touch the desired category (Seasonal, Kids, etc) to view the clip art. Touch to return to the main Clip Art window to select a different category.
  • Touch the desired clip art.
  • Adjust the clip art using the onscreen buttons to make it larger or smaller or to rotate it. Move it around on the photo by dragging it with your finger or the stylus.
  • When you are finished, touch Done.
  • To save your creative project, touch Save to Card.

NOTE: If you choose Continue without Saving, you can delete the clip art from the photo later by touching the Effect button and then touching Clip Art. Follow the prompts on the touchscreen.

Once you remove the memory card or turn off the printer, the clip art is deleted, unless you chose to save it to the card.

Creative ideas: how to use clip art

A simple white piece of clip art lends elegance.

Baby with colorful butterfly clip art
A dash of color adds a bit of whimsy to a black-and-white baby photo.
There are so many ways you can personalize your pictures with clip art. Here are just a few ideas:

  • Send a message–"It's a boy," "Congratulations," etc.
  • Add a touch of elegance–you can add flowers and other flourishes. Or try using the white image silhouettes on darker backgrounds.
  • Add clip art for color. Match clip art to a color that's already in your picture. Or add colorful clip art to a black-and-white photo.
  • Entertain the kids. Children will love creating their own photo masterpieces. The touchscreen printer makes it easy for kids to use, too!
  • Enhance photos for other creative projects–photos with clip art are great for calendars, photo albums, greeting cards, and more.

Tips for using clip art with your pictures

Mother and her two kids snuggling in bed. Clip art says "Happy Mother's Day."
A simple, solid background for a Mother's Day message.
You can add clip art to just about any picture. But for the best result look for pictures with:

  • Plenty of space around your subject. This allows you to use art that interacts with your subject. A piece of beach ball clip art suspended in front of your little girl's open hand adds a magical effect.
  • Simple, solid backgrounds that aren't too busy–and dark or light colored backgrounds–make a nice backdrop for clip art.
