Printing photos with a photo printer

Introduction

You've got the shot you want. You've got the computer, the printer and the photo paper. Now, you need to get through this with not only a beautiful print in hand, but your sanity intact.

With HP Photosmart Essential, you get lab quality prints at home every time, exactly as you want them. Preview your photo print jobs and easily crop, zoom, or make color adjustments before you print them. Not only will you save time, you'll save ink and paper as well.

Select and print your photos

First, select the photos you want to print in the library. Click on the "Print" icon and the print menu will appear.

You can select from the following types of photo print sizes:

  • Simple print: Offers the most common photo sizes.
  • Photo template: Offers a variety of photo sizes in a collage format.

Note: The available sizes may vary by country/region. Depending on the print size and paper size you select, HP Photosmart Essential may print more than one photo per sheet of paper.

Printing options

You also have a number of layout options depending on the size of your photos and the paper size on which you are printing. Make sure the printer you want is showing in the dialog box. Also, select the desirable paper size.

Note: Your photo will also appear at the bottom of the page as a thumbnail. Even at this stage, you can add other photos in case you want to print a photo collage.

You can also change various printer options depending on your printer. For a professional look at home, print on photo paper. Additionally, check your printer documentation to find out if your device supports borderless printing.

On-screen preview

A preview of your print is shown on screen. Here, you can make sure the photo will appear on the page exactly the way you want. Additionally, you can click the "Printer Settings" button to check out other options.

Maintain the quality of photo paper

Photos printed using HP photo paper The paper you choose has a significant effect on the quality of your printout. For the best results, follow these suggestions to maintain the quality of your photo paper.

Storing and handling photo paper

  • Store the photo paper in its original packaging or in a resealable plastic bag.
  • Store the packaged photo paper on a flat, cool and dry surface.
  • Return unused photo paper to the plastic bag. Paper left in the printer or exposed to the elements might curl.
  • Always hold photo paper by the edges to avoid fingerprints.
  • If the photo paper has curled edges, place it in its plastic storage bag and gently bend it in the opposite direction of the curl until the paper lies flat.
