What is the difference between previous versions of HP Photosmart Essential (1.9/1.12) and HP Photosmart Essential 3.0? Can I have them both installed on my computer?
HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 is an entirely new version of Photosmart software designed for Microsoft® Windows Vista® and XP with an engaging new
look and feel, your own personalized home page for quick access to your photos, and much more. It does not uninstall or over-write your existing version of Photosmart Essential 1.9 or 1.12.
You may choose to retain a previous version of HP Photosmart Essential if you have purchased or are using Plug-ins acquired from that version.
What is the difference between HP Image Zone, HP Photosmart Premier and HP Photosmart Essential 3.0? Can I have them both installed on my computer?
HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 will coexist on your computer with HP Photosmart Premier and previous versions of the HP software, allowing you to
choose which version is right for your photo project at hand. Version 3.0 is totally new and designed to simplify and provide enjoyment for most
photo organizing, editing, printing and sharing tasks. HP Photosmart Premier offers more advanced editing and a wide array of creative projects
such as cards, calendars, brochures and flyers.
I already have HP Photosmart Premier on my computer. Why would I want to download HP Photosmart Essential?
HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 offers a whole new view of your digital photos for Microsoft® Windows Vista® and XP users. The difference
is that HP Photosmart Essential is super-easy and intuitive for even the newest digital photography enthusiasts! You can determine when
you want to use HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 and when you need the more extensive version. Here are some other differences:
- Photosmart Essential 3.0 is optimized for Microsoft® Windows Vista®
- New interface combines simplicity with elegance, making it a pleasure to easily enjoy your photos.
- Find, organize and enjoy your photos with ease by date, tags, folders and favorites.

Will my existing plug ins for Photosmart Essential 1.9/1.12 or Photosmart Premier 6.5 work in Photosmart Essential 3.0?
Photosmart Essential 3.0 will not recognize previous HP software or plug-ins. If you have purchased and/or installed plug-ins for previous
versions of HP Photosmart software, you should continue using them with your existing version of HP Photosmart software. You can install and use
HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 separately.
How is HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 different from other imaging programs on the market?

How can HP Photosmart Essential help me conserve paper and ink?
There are a number of ways you'll save paper and ink:
- Before you print, you can choose from a variety of photo templates that help you use every inch of your
photo paper. Pack as many pictures as possible onto one page.
- You select printer settings and paper sizes on the same screen so there's nothing to forget.
- "Photo Fix Images" ensures that your image is on the page just right before printing.
- Instant Preview of print jobs lets you see the image before you waste the paper to print it.
I don't have an HP computer. Can I still use this software? Also, do I need an HP printer?
HP Photosmart Essential software should work on any PC that meets the minimum hardware requirements and any printer.
Will this application take up a lot of space on my hard drive?
No. The whole application takes up approximately 10MB at download, 20MB at installation (Your printer driver may require up to 100MB
of free disk space to process large print jobs).
What versions of Windows will HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 work with?
This latest version is optimized for these system requirements:
- PC with Pentium II 300 MHz or higher processor
- Microsoft® Windows XP or Windows Vista®
- Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
- Minimum 128 MB RAM
- Minimum 20 MB free hard drive space for installation.
NOTE: If you have Windows 2000, you can still download HP Photosmart Essential Version 1.12.
You will need to meet these system requirements:
- PC with 486 or higher processor
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP
- Minimum 64 MB RAM
- 100 MB free hard drive space for installation
Will the free software work on a Mac or is there a version available for Macintosh?
HP Photosmart Essential 3.0 is optimized for computers with Microsoft® Windows XP and Vista®, and is not currently available for Macintosh.
Will I need a new photo printer to create top-quality digital photo prints?
Actually, you don't need a new photo printer at all to create beautiful prints—although the latest photo printers
do offer a lot of great extras for photographers. If you're thinking about one, learn more about

Otherwise, rest assured that even a low-cost HP inkjet printer can turn out fabulous prints.
I have never even downloaded pictures. Will there be a big learning curve for me?
Not at all: The software is intuitive and designed to simplify digital photography with optional on-screen guidance to ensure success.
If I delete an image from HP Photosmart Essential, will it be permanently removed from my hard drive?
Yes. Photosmart Essential is intended to help you manage your entire photo library. Deleting an image from HP Photosmart Essential does place the image in your recycling bin on your computer desktop.
A pop-up window will appear with this warning, which will also give you the option to cancel.
Will my digital images be safe? How can I be sure that I don't mess something up when I try to improve or edit them?
The digital images are not stored in HP Photosmart Essential; they actually exist on your PC's hard drive.
HP Photosmart Essential creates a digital negative, or copy of the original photo for any photo that you modify, so that you can always go back to it.
What is an "add-on?"
An add-on or plug-in, is either free or low-cost software additions that enhance
HP Photosmart Essential. These can include free file backup and protect, slideshow
movie suites, or online CD/DVD archiving services. Find out about all our
