Introduction

Create your own unique slide show to display your photos. We'll show you how to use the Slide show feature offered in the free software, Windows Live Photo Gallery to customize a full-screen presentation of your digital memories.

The Slide show feature found in Windows Live Photo Gallery offers a unique way to share your photos with friends and family.

  • Display your images in a full-screen presentation—a convenient way to share photos with a large group.
  • Customize the slide show settings, including the speed and order of your photos.
  • Choose from a variety of background themes and animation effects.
  • Combine photos and video clips into a single slide show presentation.

Step one: Select photos for your slide show

There are a few different ways you can select photos to include in your slide show:

  • In Windows Live Photo Gallery, click on the folder containing the photos you would like to include.
  • You can also choose individual pictures from various folders by clicking on photos you would like to add.

  • The selected photos will then be highlighted in blue, and a small checkmark will momentarily appear in the corner.
  • If you're selecting photos from multiple folders to put in a slide show, try copying the images to their own separate folder so you can replay the slide show at a later date without having to reselect each individual picture.

Step two: Launch your slide show

There are two options for beginning the slide show:

  • Click Slide show in the toolbar at the top of the screen.

  • Or, click the Slide show icon at the bottom of the screen.

Step three: Choose your slide show settings

There are a variety of settings that you can customize for a unique photo presentation:

  • Click the wheel-shaped Settings icon in the Slide show toolbar to choose the speed...
    • Slow
    • Medium
    • Fast
  • ...and the order of your photos.
    • Loop: The photos will appear on the screen in the same order they appear in your gallery folders.
    • Shuffle: The photo sequence will be randomly chosen.
  • Click the Themes button on the Slide show toolbar to find the following animated effects and background options:
    • Classic: A basic display option with no transition effects. You cannot include videos in your slide show while in Classic mode.
    • Fade: Each photo or video will gradually fade as it appears and recedes from the screen.
    • Pan and zoom: Zooms in, and then slowly pans across, each photo.
    • Black and white: Displays photos and videos in black and white.
    • Sepia: Adds a sepia tone to photos and videos.
    • Album: Displays photos in pairs in a format styled after a photo album.
    • Collage: Presents multiple photos on the screen in a scattered, collage-style display.
    • Frame: Photos appear one-at-a-time (not full-screen) inside of a thin frame.
    • Glass: Photos appear transparent, displayed in layers.
    • Spin: Photos and videos come into view one-at-a-time and transition in and out of the screen while spinning.
    • Stack: As each new photo or video appears, it is piled on top of the previous image, to resemble a stack of photos.
    • Travel: The most elaborate of the themes, Travel incorporates the effects of Fade, Pan and zoom, Spin, and Stack, all set against a background styled after a travel scrapbook.
  • You can change the settings and themes at any time during your slide show.
