| Q: Why is HP recalling certain "Longwell" power
cords?
A: In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission,
Longwell Electronics is voluntarily recalling about 2.5 million power
cords shipped with printers made by Hewlett-Packard Company. The gray-colored
cords with designations LS-7C on them were shipped with some of the
following Hewlett Packard printers in the U.S. and Canada since April
2001. HP Deskjet 800 series and 900 series, HP Photosmart 1000 series,
1100 series, 1200 series and 1300 series. The power cord connector
to the printer may crack, exposing live electrical contacts and presenting
a hazard for electric shock or electrocution.
The recall is isolated to Longwell "LS-7C" power cords
with U.S.-style plugs. HP will replace any affected Longwell cord
with a new cord. Customers who determine that their printer has a
Longwell cord should return it to HP for a replacement.
Q: How did HP discover the problem?
A: During routine returns to our repair center, our engineers discovered
this potential defect. Our company has not received any complaints
from customers that have experienced this issue.
Q: How much will the replacement cable cost?
A: HP will ship the replacement cord free of charge.
Q: How long will it take to receive a replacement cable?
A: HP will ship the replacement cord using 1st class USPS delivery,
which should only take 5 to 7 business days at most.
Q: May I continue using the power cord that shipped with my unit?
A: No. The CPSC asks that you do not continue to use the Longwell
power cord. Leave the Longwell cord disconnected from the AC wall
outlet and return it in the prepaid mailer that is sent along with
the replacement power cord.
Q: Will HP replace my printer?
A: This problem does not affect the performance or warranty of the
printer. The power cord issue does not relate to printer performance
or printer quality.
Q: Can I keep my old cable? Or do I have to return my old cable
back to hp?
A: No. Once HP ships you the replacement power cord, the kit will
contain a prepaid return shipping label.
Q: Could this have caused damage to my system?
A: No. This defect if manifest would only present a risk of electrical
shock. |
