At seven, he entered the Jesuit school of San Ignacio in Rio de Janeiro. Paulo came to detest the obligatory nature of religious practice. However, although he hated praying and going to mass, there were compensations. In the school's austere corridors, Paulo discovered his true vocation: to be a writer. He won his first literary prize in a school poetry competition, and his sister, Sonia, recounts how she won an essay prize by entering something that Paulo had discarded in the wastepaper bin. | ||||

| Video OPEN ON a slow push in on a laptop computer. A man's torse is on the screen. As he begins to talk things start to animate withinhis hands. This framing remains for the rest of the commercial. A tree begins to grow and bloom. The tree then becomes the outside of a door. Paulo reaches out and opens the door to reveal a colorful drawing of a pyramid. This picture is the first page of a book. Suddenly the pages start blowing and flying out of the book. The cover of the book then turns into thread that unravels into nothing. Water forms all around Paulo. There are letters floating. Paulo dips his hand into the water and scoops up some random letters. Paulo's hand then draws an infinity symbol composed of pictures. Paulo flips out three digital looking cards. The one on screen left is a man looking out into the world with a compass. The middle one is moving soccer footage. The right card is an image of Paulo writing with a feather pen. His hand flicks the soccer ball in t he middle card, prompting it to fly out towards camera. It goes off screen. Paulo then wipes all the cards off screen and as he puts his hand back, he reveals his name glowing. Its written in fire. Slowly the camera pulls out to then show our image inside the computer screen. |
