When I think about surprising ROIs, the HP NetServer LH Plus I purchased sometime back in the mid ’90s immediately comes to mind. After 15 or so years, the machine is still going strong. Outdated? You bet, but it has faithfully performed various tasks on the network over the years, without a single hardware failure. In its roughly 15 years of service, it has done everything from acting as a Web server to a file server to an e-mail server to a backup server and finally to a test environment. I have to say that my LH Plus was an investment that has paid for itself many times over, and as long as the machine remains operational and I can find a use for it, you better believe it will keep its place on my network.
