GROCERIES

By Carmen, Wisconsin

My husband likes to go hunting, and we have tried several ways of packaging and freezing venison—letting the butcher package it, wrapping in freezer paper, etc. One year we decided to buy a vacuum sealer. It worked great for the venison, and we had some in the freezer after a year that had zero freezer burn! However, our ROI wasn’t just that one time. We have a small household, and our grocery store often has family packs of meat for a lot less than buying standard sizes. I could buy a pack of roasts for less than $2.00 per pound and repackage it in vacuum-sealed bags when I got home, into individual serving sizes for our family. We have saved quite a bit of money this way. We've also packaged up produce when it’s fresh. I love my vacuum sealer!
