hp introduces hp openview smart internet access 1.0
solution designed to help internet service providers increase service revenue and reduce operations costs for internet access networks.
los angeles, march 11, 1998 Hewlett-Packard Company today announced the HP OpenView Smart Internet Access 1.0 solution, part of the HP OpenView Internet Service Management Program, announced Feb. 17. The announcement was made here at Spring Internet World, which runs through March 13.
The HP OpenView Smart Internet Access 1.0 solution, part of the HP OpenView Smart Internet Suite, is targeted for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) with rich media-access networks. It has been deployed at Telstra Multimedia in Australia.
"HP Smart Internet Access 1.0 includes everything an ISP needs to increase revenue streams by delivering Internet access and Internet services in a secure, managed environment with reduced operations costs," said Sanjay Uppal, operations manager of HP's Internet Infrastructure Operation. "It includes service-management servers that can be deployed as an end-to-end solution or as an adjunct solution for rich media or narrowband."
HP Smart Internet Access 1.0 provides five functions that are essential to Internet Service Providers:
- rich media Internet services to ensure the fastest-possible Internet access;
- security and firewall services to help protect ISP customers from hostile attack over the Internet;
- subscription management to make available to customers a range of service tiers;
- operations management to provide essential functions for the ISP operations staff; and
- content management to provide the staging facilities for content prior to its being loaded into the HP Smart Internet Access production environment.
The flexible, scalable Internet infrastructure deployed by HP will continue to provide ISPs with the ability to meet their goals of expanding Internet services while maintaining network security, manageability and cost-effectiveness.
