A free version of the Virtual Partitions product is available for download from the following website:

Hewlett-Packard has identified an issue with the vPars-compatible WINSTALL install kernel and the December 2001 and March 2002 Ignite-UX versions (B.3.5.89 and B.3.6.82, respectively). The vPars-compatible WINSTALL install kernel is not compatible with all the features of December 2001 and March 2002 Ignite-UX software releases. An update of the Ignite-UX server WINSTALL is needed to be compatible with the December 2001 Ignite-UX version (B.3.5.89) or the March 2002 Ignite-UX version (B.3.6.82) software releases.

NOTE: WINSTALL is a bootable kernel used by Ignite-UX during installation and recovery of a virtual partition. The WINSTALL_script copies a vPars-compatible WINSTALL to the correct location on an Ignite-UX server.

HP's Recommendation:

Download the WINSTALL software package from the HP Software Depot at:

Select "Enhancement Releases", then "HP-UX Virtual Partitions" and follow the directions on the web page for downloading the WINSTALL software package. The WINSTALL software package consists of a WINSTALL_script and WINSTALL binaries, one for each of the supported Ignite-UX versions (B.3.4.115, B.3.5.89, B.3.6.82). The script will install the appropriate version of the vPars-compatible WINSTALL based on the Ignite-UX version installed on your system.

Please refer to the HP-UX 11i Release Notes (December 2001, part # 5185-4304; or March 2002, part # 5185-4391), which are delivered with the HP-UX 11i media kit CDs, for information on the Ignite-UX version enhancements in each release. Release Notes can also be found at this website: http://docs.hp.com.

For additional information on updating your Ignite-UX server, refer to the 'Installation' section in chapter 4 of the 'Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions' manual that is included on your vPars CD, or that can be found at this website: http://docs.hp.com/hpux/11i/index.html#Virtual%20Partitions.

If you require assistance from Hewlett-Packard, please contact your local Hewlett-Packard Support Representative. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving your needs in the future.

Regards,

Hewlett-Packard Company
