This bulletin also applies to other non-vPars-enabled HP servers using GlancePlus/UX and MeasureWare products with patch PHNE_24211.
Hewlett-Packard has identified two different issues related to vPars:
- The first is that vPars-dependent patch PHNE_24211 (cumulative ARPA Transport patch) causes any HP-UX 11i GlancePlus and MeasureWare product version to experience either of the following:
a. to report or log incorrect or no network metrics with IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4, which is part of the HP-UX 11i Core Networking software).
b. to application-abort with IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6, which is a HP-UX 11i Core Networking enhancement product bundle).
- The second is that an Ignite-UX server update using the provided WINSTALL_script to load the vPars-enabled install kernel will not operate with Ignite-UX version B.3.5.89 (December 2001 software release). The error will indicate a fileset mismatch.
NOTE: WINSTALL is a bootable kernel used by Ignite-UX during installation and recovery of a virtual partition. The WINSTALL_script copies a vPars-compatible WINSTALL to the correct location on an Ignite-UX server.
HP's Recommendation:
- To protect against the first issue that affects GlancePlus/UX and MeasureWare, HP is creating a successor patch to PHNE_24211 (due out in mid December 2001). HP strongly recommends that you install this patch (or its successor) to protect your HP-UX systems.
This patch can be downloaded from the following locations:
ITRC web site: http://ITresourcecenter.hp.com
Login with your user ID and password if you are already registered, or register according to the instructions provided. Remember to save the user ID assigned to you, along with your password. Click on "Individual Patches", then "Retrieve a Specific Patch" and enter "PHNE_24211" in the "Patch Name" field, and click on "Retrieve" button to locate the required patch.- ITRC free FTP server: ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com
2. There are two options available to address the second issue and update the WINSTALL_script:
- Download the updated version of the WINSTALL_script from the HP software depot at: http://software.hp.com.
Select "Enhancement Releases", then "HP-UX Virtual Partitions" and follow the directions on the web page for obtaining the updated WINSTALL_script.
- Edit the existing WINSTALL_script by changing the line " IuxRev="B.3.4.115" " to " IuxRev="B.3.5.89" "
For additional information on updating your Ignite-UX server, refer to the 'Installation' section in chapter 4 of the 'Installing and Managing HP-UX Virtual Partitions' manual that is included on your vPars CD, or that can be found at this website: http://docs.hp.com/hpux/11i/index.html#Virtual%20Partitions.
