HP-UX 11i Virtual Partitions is software that
divides a physical server into multiple virtual servers, each with their own
HP-UX Operating System, and CPU, memory and I/O resources. By using vPars, customers can utilize unused
server capacity, increase overall server utilization, and increase flexibility
of those resources.
The main new capabilities
provided by HP-UX 11i v3 vPars - September 2007 (vPars A.05.02) are:
HP 9000 rp8440,
rp7440, Superdome sx2000 server support
DVD boot support for IPF
vPars
Pre-enablement of SCSI
tape boot and recovery support for vPars environments running on HP Integrity
servers with HP-UX 11i v3. (Note: the
firmware required for this feature is currently planned to be released in 4Q CY
2007.)
Pre-enablement
of PCI Express (PCIe) IO (on
Integrity sx2000 servers only) (Note: these I/O cards are currently planned
to be released in 4Q CY 2007.)
HP-UX
11i v3 Virtual Partitions September 2007 (vPars A.05.02) only runs with HP-UX
11i v3. It will be released
concurrently with the September
2007 HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment Release
(B.11.31 OER), although vPars is separately orderable and separately
distributed on its own DVD.
If
the vPars software for the given HP Integrity or HP 9000 servers is on an HP
upgrade support contract, this release would be covered by that contract.
Please be aware of the firmware requirements and end
of support dates for vPars releases, listed in the HP-UX Virtual Partitions
Ordering and Configuration Guide at: http://docs.hp.com/en/oshpux11iv3.html#Virtual%20Partitions .
