HP-UX Support Plus for September 2003

Hewlett-Packard is pleased to announce the latest release of HP-UX Support Plus.  These tested bundles include patches that fix HP-UX defects, enable new hardware, and provide diagnostic tools.  Support Plus is available to customers by request only.  Please use the following information to decide whether this release is right for you.

Special Note:

Hewlett-Packard will offer the final Quality Pack (QPK) and Hardware Enablement (HWE) bundles for HP-UX 11.0(B.11.00) in March 2004.  This is in alignment with the discontinuance of HP-UX 11.0 on March 31, 2004.  These bundles will NOT be rolling on the December 2003 Support Plus release.

While Hewlett-Packard will no longer refresh these bundles after March 2004, you can still obtain them from the Support Plus web page at http://software.hp.com/SUPPORT PLUS.  Also, Hewlett-Packard will continue to provide new and recommended HP-UX 11.0 patches, as well as updated information about the patches in the March 2004 bundles, at the ITRC Resource Center.  The URL is: http://itrc.hp.com.  For Europe, the URL is: http://Europe.itrc.hp.com.

New in Support Plus!

Starting September 2003, the Support Plus Media will include the latest release of HP Instant Support Enterprise Edition (ISEE) A.03.00.  If you are managing a business with little tolerance for unplanned downtime, then proactive remote monitoring is one of the best tools you can use to keep your IT infrastructure highly available.

The latest enhancements to ISEE include improved remote monitoring capabilities for MS Windows and Red Hat Linux systems, new diagnostic scripts (MAPs), additional hardware events being monitored, greater analysis capabilities, increase efficiencies and processes to resolve your problems more quickly.  Additional, ISEE now supports multiple customer support contacts and provides a scheduling utility allowing you to schedule the collection of system configuration information at a time that’s convenient for you. Scheduling configuration collections enables HP to provide more robust troubleshooting and support practices.  This release also includes integration of key mission critical and network support capabilities, a feature of select HP support contracts.  As ISEE evolves, it will incorporate additional capabilities and expand the breadth of supported products. ISEE will become the HP remote support standard, offering broad multi-technology, multi-vendor monitoring.

HP ISEE is a single, common remote support solution that lets you manage supported HP-UX, MS Windows and Red Hat Linux servers, connected peripherals, HP storage devices, and network interconnect devices that span simple to complex mission-critical IT environments.  By providing a single remote support solution for multiple operating systems and devices, ISEE can help eliminate the need for you to manage multiple support tools across your IT environment, thus reducing complexity and support cost.

HP ISEE uses continuous hardware event monitoring and automated notification, to proactively identify and prevent potential critical problems.  Through remote diagnostic scripts and vital configuration information collected, HP ISEE enables fast restoration of supported systems, storage and network devices.

HP ISEE is a feature of HP hardware support onsite with 4-hour response or higher support contract level.  Start using ISEE today to improve system availability and reduce support cost.  If you’re already using ISEE, HP encourages you to upgrade to the latest release of ISEE A.03.00 as soon as possible so that you can reap the additional benefits.  HP ISEE A.03.00 is available on the September release of the Support Plus media for installation as the bundle ISEEPlatform within the HPUXAuxTools directory.  ISEE can also be downloaded at www.software.hp.com by selecting Instant Support Enterprise Edition under the “internet ready and networking” section or under the Featured Products section.  For more information on ISEE, visit www.hp.com/go/instantsupport.

If you have HP mission critical or select network support services, contact their HP account support team to determine the appropriate remote support solution for your environment.

HP-UX Support Plus will be released on separate CD media, one CD for HP-UX 11.0 and one CD for HP-UX 11i.
