release.
The HP OpenView
Storage Data Protector software is enterprise data protection and disaster recovery,
ensuring recovery from any disruption. Data
Protector integrates a variety of techniques to eliminate backup
and recovery windows. The capabilities to eliminate planned downtime range
from online backup and backup of open files to zero-downtime, zero-impact
backup. The software provides industry-leading instant recovery as well as
several disaster recovery alternatives to eliminate unplanned downtime, allowing
recovery of entire data centers in minutes.
Data Protector
is enabling organizations to reduce costs by automating routine tasks to maximize
the effectiveness of the data protection staff.
For the price of an entry-level product,
it provides the enterprise functionality customers need. Data Protector scales from single server to distributed enterprise,
covering an extensive range of heterogeneous applications, operating environments
and storage configurations with a single solution.
Data Protector 5.1 builds upon the capabilities of its predecessors, HP OpenView
Omniback II and Data Protector 5.0, and is fully compatible with existing
tapes, scripts and procedures. Data Protector 5.1 includes all existing Omniback
II and Data Protector 5.0 functionality. The upgrade from a previous version to Data Protector 5.1 doesn’t
require license migration. Once you migrate, you will keep all the functionality
that you have today.
Data
Protector 5.1 leverages the product structure from its predecessors, in order
to provide with an easy migration and compatibility between both. Thus, if
you need to order additional Omniback functional extension licenses or drive
extensions licenses for your existing environment, you can make use of the
Data Protector 5.1 product numbers. These licenses-to-use will work in your
Omniback/Data Protector 5.0 environment, except from the following new licenses
introduced with Data Protector 5.0:

Backup of NDMP
servers: B7022BA, please use B7022AA instead for Omniback environments

B7028AA, B7027AA
and B7029AA are all new licenses introduced with Data Protector 5.0, and they
will not work in an Omniback environment
