Requests for this software update are due back to HP no later than April 15, 2009

We are pleased to be offering the new release of HP Data Protector Express software. This release is HP Data Protector Express 3.5 Service Pack 2.

All users of Data Protector Express with a current support contract are entitled to this Service Pack and can download it from the ‘Support & documentation’ link at http://www.hp.com/go/dataprotectorexpress. All existing license keys are compatible with the new software.

This release has the following added features and maintenance:

New features

·         Improved copy policy (D2D2Any option)
This allows the user to configure a copy policy to automatically run at or after completion of the backup job to create a copy of the backup media set.

·         Improved library support (base product)
Multiple improvements to make it easier to manage and use tape libraries as backup and recovery devices. These improvements include the use of media bar codes to manage access to media.

·         Pre-job and post-job execution of commands (base product)
Pre- and post-job commands are used to perform OS-specific commands before or after a backup or recovery job. This new feature can be used to automate preparation for a job, with commands such as stop/start a database.

·         New rotation type “Daily append” (base product)
A new rotation type has been added for used by small organizations with relatively small data volumes to protect. It is simple rotation that uses just 4 media sets yet allows media to be moved offsite and recovery to any day in the past 4 weeks.

·         New schedule control command (base product)
It is now possible to manually control the scheduler, overriding the clock-based scheduling. This allows quick testing of rotation schemes, failed jobs to be easily re-run and a schedule to be paused and later resumed.

·         Automatic version upgrade of clients (base product)
To make updating all machines in the Data Protector Express Storage Domain easier, this can now be automated. The Data Protector Express Backup Server can be configured to automatically upgrade (or downgrade) all the other machines Storage Domain to the same build as installed on the Backup Server.

·         User controllable performance settings (base product)
Options are now available to allow the user to control backup performance and backup impact. This is done by modifying parameters such as number of active hosts and active Data Protector Express database selection list thresholds. Backup modes can now be set to sequential or asynchronous on a Workgroup folder.

New device support

Support for the following devices has been added in this release:

·         HP StorageWorks DAT160 (DDS-6); USB, SCSI, SAS

·         Quantum DAT160 (ID: Quantum*DAT***DAT160-000) ; USB, SCSI, SAS

·         HP StorageWorks Ultrium 1840 (LTO-4); SCSI, FC, SAS
