HP OpenView Smart Plug-ins for HP OpenView Operations for Windows – June 2006

The new HP OpenView Smart Plug-Ins (SPI) CDs contain updated smart plug-ins for versions 7.5 of HP OpenView Operations for Windows.  You can find a short description of each SPI in the HP OpenView SPI CD Installation Guide, which accompanies the CD.

All Smart Plug-ins in this release include:

§         HP OpenView Operations 7.5 for Windows management server support on Windows 2000 and 2003 Server/Advanced Server/Datacenter Server Edition

Specific Smart Plug-in updates are summarized as follows.  For more complete details, see the product release notes

§         NEW!  Oracle Application Server SPI:  This new web application server SPI includes the following: Availability and performance monitoring with more than 30 key health metrics; Monitoring key Oracle Application Server logfiles; Collecting and feeding data into HP OpenView Performance Agent for graphs and reports; Integrating with HP OpenView Performance Manager and OpenView Reporter; Launching Oracle Application Server GUIs from console; and Providing auto configuration, service maps.  This new Smart Plug-in supports Oracle Application Server 10g Release 1 (9.0.4), 2 (10.1.2) and partial support for 10.1.3, and the following managed node operating system platforms: HPUX 11.11, 11.23 (PA-RISC and IA-64); Solaris 9, 10; RedHat Linux AS 2.1, 3.0, 4.0 (IA32); Suse Linux 8, 9 (IA32 and IA64); and Windows 2000, 2003 (IA32 and IA64).

§         BEA Tuxedo: New features of the Tuxedo SPI include  service discovery, data collection, x86 Windows 2003 support, Tuxedo9.0 support and support of Tuxedo 6.5 on AIX5.1.

§         BEA WebLogic Server:  Highlights of this release include, support of Weblogc 9.0 and 9.1, support of Reporter 3.6 and 3.7, JMX Metrics Builder usabiilty improvements like enhanced logging & tracing capabilities and a new option is provided to select all metadata.

§         IBM WebSphere Application Server:  Key features of this release include WebSphere 6.0 support, support of 3.6 and 3.7, capability to allow connections in SSL environments, JMX Metrics Builder usabiilty improvements like enhanced logging & tracing capabilities.

§         Microsoft ® Enterprise Server(.Net SPI): Key features include all features of SPI that monitor BizTalk 2004 e.g. Orchestration Status monitoring, Database space usage monitoring, Port Status monitoring etc. are ported to Biztalk 2006 and support for  Reporter 3.6

§         Microsoft ® Active Directory Server:  Key features include message correlation and auto or Adaptive.

§         Database: 

o         Informix:  Support of Solaris 10 on the managed node

o         Oracle:  Key features of this release include, new monitoring functionality for Oracle RAC(Real Application Cluster), Improved Oracle SQL query monitoring capability, support of Oracle data guard, support of oracle database version 10g/R2 and support of solaris 10, Suse Linux ES 8.0 and 9.0 managed node platforms.

o         Microsoft SQL Server:  New features include support of latest version of the MS SQL Server 2005(aka “Yukon”), Support MS SQL Server 2005 Database Replication, Monitoring the SQL Server Replication Server environment, Support for SQL Server 2005 on Windows 2003 on Itanium platform.

o         Sybase:  Support of Solaris 10 on the managed node.

o         DB2:  New features include faster and more CPU-efficient metrics collection using embedded SQL (ESQL), support for both 32-and 64-bit DB2 installations and DB2 Clusters, license management capabilities - reporting on the installed license keys store and additional tools to add licenses, integration with Self-Healing Services to help the customer solve problems more quickly and efficiently.

§         Microsoft Virtual Server:  Key features of this release include, Support of Windows 2003 SP1 for MSVS host and  guest machines, Support of MSVS SP1 for OVOW managed MSVS node(MSVS R2), providing tool(s) for launching VMM administration pages and improvements in the virtual network monitoring.

§         Web Server:  Key features of this release include, support of SunONE 6.1, IBM WebSphere HTTP Server Support on Red Hat Linux 3.0 and Support Latest version of Apache 2.0.54/2.0.55

§         SAP: Key features of this release include, SAP ITS 6.20 support, SLES 8,9 and RHEL 3,4 / x86 and x64, Support of Solaris 10(SPARC), Support of HP-UX 64bit itanium native collectors, Support of SAP NW J2EE/XI, Security monitoring and Dispatcher Queue Monitor

§         Windows OS:  Key features of this release include, Support Windows 2003 64-bit, Improved IIS 6.0 management and removal of HP SIM Integration policies.

§         HP SIM Integration: Key features of this release include, support of HP SIM 5.0, Server-based event bridge, incorporating the existing SIM functionality of Windows OSSPI and support of bi-directional event synchronization

§         PeopleSoft:  Key features of this release include, support of PeopleTools 8.46, enhanced support for DB2, supporting the launch of Peoplesoft PPM, Non-Root agent support and self healing data collector services.

§         Remedy: Key features of this release include, support of AR system 6.3, providing Backup server option, Non-Root agent support and self healing data collector services. 

§         HP Storage Essentials: Key features of this release include SE Service Map and monitoring SE Services.

§         Storage Area Manager: Key features of this release include, support for OVOW 7.5, SHS, and support for SANMGR_00017 patch.

HP OpenView Operations / Performance for UNIX® media kit updates now available

The following new releases are available to you via the HP OpenView Operations / Performance for UNIX media kit update:

·         HP OpenView Operations for UNIX Configuration Value Pack 3.0

·         HP OpenView Smart Plug-ins for HP OpenView Operations for UNIX – November 2006

These releases make available to you many new features and enhancements that we trust will increase the value of your software investment into Service-Driven Operations with HP OpenView Operations for UNIX.

New features and enhancements include:

·         HP OpenView Operations for UNIX Configuration Value Pack 3.0
HP OpenView Operations for UNIX Configuration Value Pack is a new, innovative add-on software for Operations for UNIX, that helps you manage more nodes and applications without additional staffing, while simultaneously improving the quality and transparency of your monitoring configuration.
HP OpenView Operations for UNIX Configuration Value Pack enables efficient navigation, editing and synchronization of Operations for UNIX configuration items across multiple management servers. This capability can greatly increase the productivity of your Operations for UNIX administrators. Concurrent, web-based access and a granular authorization model enable the delegation of configuration tasks to domain experts, thus reducing communication overhead and shortening time to delivery. Configuration reporting allows for better transparency, and configuration versioning and auditing helps you implement proper change and compliance management processes.

·         HP OpenView Smart Plug-ins for HP OpenView Operations for UNIX – November 2006
The November 2006 collection of HP OpenView Smart Plug-ins (SPIs) contain new and enhanced SPIs for versions 7 and 8 of HP OpenView Operations for UNIX.
Please note that the media format has changed to DVD – what has previously been available on three separate SPI CDs (2 CDs with SPI install packages and 1 CD with SPI reporting/graphing packages) is now included in one DVD.
You can find a short description of each Smart Plug-in in the HP OpenView SPI DVD Installation Guide, which is included on the media.

Specific Smart Plug-in updates are summarized as follows. For more complete details, see also the product release notes.

o         NEW ! Storage Essentials SPI: Service discovery / mapping of HP Storage Essentials central management server and it’s managed hosts.  Monitoring of HP Storage Essentials service and processes. Tools to start/stop/status HP Storage Essentials server and host agent processes.

o        NEW ! HP Systems Insight Manager Integration: Event forwarding from HP SIM into OVO and bi-directional event acknowledgement.  Service discovery and monitoring of HP SIM and Insight Management Agents services.

o        Oracle® Application Server SPI:  Support for OAS 10.1.3.

o         BEA Tuxedo SPI:  Tuxedo 9.0 and 9.1 Support on Win 2003, Solaris 9,10 (32 bit), HP-UX 11.23 PA64. Power PC Support for Tuxedo 6.5 on AIX 5.1, 5.2. Support for monitoring Application Queue, which includes monitoring Tuxedo Application Queue Space and Application queues. Support for monitoring Server Group Status.

o         BEA WebLogic Server SPI: Application instance-level monitoring, reporting, discovery, configuration, and authentication. This is a key feature of this release. This feature helps the customer to identify the few metrics utilization such as JDBC, Servlets, JMS etc at the application level in addition to server level. Support for Hardware cluster failover - UNIX MC/SG. Improved usability and customer-specific task examples for User Guide Documentation. Improve Discovery error-logging and fault-tolerance.

o         Informix: Support for Informix 10.0.

o         Oracle®: Oracle Data Guard Monitoring. Oracle OEM 10g Grid Control Integration. Oracle ASM Diskgroup Monitoring

o         Microsoft® SQL Server: Support for MS SQL Server running on x64 hardware (AMD and EM64T). MS SQL Server Replication Monitoring.

o         Sybase: Support for Sybase ASE 15.

o         IBM DB2: Full support of DB2 database partitioning (DPF). Extended list of performance metrics. Improved configuration procedure. Improved discovery of the managed environment. New filter provides detailed definition of monitored objects across four levels of hierarchy (instances, databases, partitions, tablespaces /bufferpools). New process monitoring for remote partitions. Additional platforms supported. License management improvements.

o         IBM WebSphere Application Server SPI: Support for Hardware cluster failover - UNIX MC/SG. Support of WebSphere 6.1. Improved usability and customer-specific task examples for User Guide Documentation. Improve Discovery error-logging and fault-tolerance. Support for AIX 5.3, Intel Xeon 64-bit processor - EM64T, HP-UX 11.23

o         Microsoft ® Exchange Server SPI:  Enhanced Service Discovery, Increased amount of data being logged ad reported. Better Exchange Server configuration and security monitoring.

o         PeopleSoft SPI:  Support for PeopleTools 8.45, 8.46 & 8.48.  Support for HP-UX 11.23 and Solaris 10 on the OVO/UNIX management server. Support for HP-UX 11.23 (PA-RISC and IA64) on PeopleSoft servers. Support for DB2 as the PeopleSoft database. Basic monitoring of the WebLogic web server. 

o         Remedy SPI:   Support for OVO management server on HP-UX 11.23 (PA-RISC & IA64 native mode. Support for ARS server version 6.3 and 7.0. Support for ARS servers running on Linux (SuSE SLES 8/8, RedHat RHEL 2.1/3.0/4.0). Specific ticket updates for creation and update of OVO message. More flexible handling of ARS ticket updates. Support for setting Custom Message Attributes in OVO messages. Delayed connections to ARS servers on SPI startup. Ability for the SPI client to buffer requests. Integrate status information in "ovstatus”.

o         SAP SPI:  Support for NetWeaver 04s/WebAS 7.0/Kernel 7.0. Support of Linux managed nodes (SAP servers running Linux on i86 and x64 servers, but not on Itanium), support for native collectors on Itanium HP-UX 64 bit, support for Windows 2003 managed nodes on x64 and Itanium. Dispatcher Queue Monitoring, automatic monitor- configuration check. New CCMS-based monitoring capabilities for SAP J2EE, XI, Stand-alone Enqueue server and Security-Audit.

Take full advantage of your support agreement – Request your upgrade today

As a customer with an active License-to-Use (LTU) support contract for HP OpenView Operations for UNIX, HP OpenView Operations / Performance for UNIX or any HP OpenView Smart Plug-in, you are entitled to request this HP OpenView Operations / Performance for UNIX media kit update, and to use new versions of the licensed software.

Please note that this media kit update may include products for which you may not have a valid license-to-use. Please contact your HP sales representative or your reseller, in case you want to purchase additional LTUs.

Prepare your migration ahead of time. Follow these steps:

In order to prepare for your upgrade to the various new releases included in this update of the HP OpenView Operations / Performance 8 for UNIX media kit, you will need to:

1.       Request the HP OpenView Operations / Performance 8 for UNIX media kit update

2.       Get access to the corresponding product documentation (either from CDs/DVDs or from managementsoftware.hp.com/services à Product manuals).

3.       Use the latest versions of the product-specific Release Notes and Installation Guides to help you plan and perform the upgrade.

By capturing the right data at the right time, Self-Healing Services eliminates the time- consuming manual and iterative processes, saving you significant time. Information about faults is delivered to you in minutes versus days. Self-Healing Services is included as part of HP’s foundation support. Version Maturity

Hewlett-Packard (HP) announced on August 5, 2005 version discontinuance of HP OpenView Operations 7.x for UNIX. HP is committed to providing the highest level of customer care to you while you determine your future strategy for your OVO/UNIX installation, and will continue to provide Current Product Support through December 31, 2007 and Self-help Support through December 31, 2009.

HP also announced a version maturity roadmap for HP OpenView Network Node Manager 6.4/6.41:

·         Current Product Support will end on December 31, 2007

·         Self-help Support will end on December 31, 2009

This might impact your existing OVO/UNIX 7.x installation.

HP recommends all customers to upgrade to the latest patch level of OVO/UNIX 8 and NNM 7.51 in the near future.

According to HP Software obsolescence guidelines, HP software products are only supported on operating system platforms as long as they are supported by their vendor. The following operating systems or operating system versions reach their end of support dates in the near future:

-          HP MPE/iX            End of Support:     December 31, 2006

-          HP-UX 11.0           End of Support:     December 31, 2006

Please note that OVO/UNIX 7.x or 8.x management server and agents on these platforms are not supported beyond the listed dates. It is recommended to migrate or upgrade your system(s) to a supported operating system platform in order to continue to receive support for OVO/UNIX.

HP Glance Plus & Perf Agent 4.6 (all platforms) – GPPA46

HP OpenView Performance Agent and/or GlancePlus 4.6.  This new version 4.6 has many new and exciting features as summarized below.

o        Support for heterogeneous virtualized environments

o        VMware ESX Server, HP-UX HPVM and IBM AIX LPAR

o        Configurable logging interval

o        New threshold based logging and flush interval

o        Enriched set of metrics

What is not new:

o        datacomm (same as OVPA4.5)ARM

o        tools – extract, utility etc.

o        DSI interface

HP CM Clnt Cnfg Mgr v2.00 L10N - CCM20L

HP Client Configuration Manager v2.00 L10N is a localized version of HP Client Configuration Manager v2.00. This update provides you with a language pack CD/download for localization of the product in Simplified Chinese, Japanese, French, and German. The translated product documentation is included with the product software.

With HP Client Configuration Manager v2.00 you gain access to a powerful product that will enable you to automate the deployment and configuration of software, applications, content and patches on PCs and HP Thin Clients.

HP Client Configuration Manager v2.00 will provide you with:

o       Integrated software management
Inventory collection—Accurately discovers and inventories installed hardware and software assets on managed devices
Operating system deployment and settings migration—Enables bare-metal deployment of operating systems and migration to new operating systems while preserving application and user settings

HP Select Identity 4.11 – SID411

HP Select Identity Software v4.11represents the state-of-the-art in Identity Management. We welcome feedback on your experience with this solution; see the section below entitled “Questions and Feedback”.

Select Identity 4.11 has many changes including:

o        New Service model enhancements such as more self-service, a new secondary account feature, expanded password policies etc.

o        A new workflow approval process for configuration changes

o        Out-of-the-box integration with HP Service Desk

o        Enhancements to auditing, scalability, availability and reliability

o        Defect fixes

Product manuals are contained within the software. HP Select Identity 4.11 is intended for both new and upgrading customers. Customers of previous versions of Select Identity up to and including version 4.01, may wish to contact their HP Partner or HP Consulting and Integration Services to plan and schedule an engagement for migration to 4.11. Migration tools are also included in the software and more information is available from your HP representative.
