Based on consistent customer feedback, HP has decided to not pursue further development of the Linux Edition of the Rapid Deployment Pack (RDP). As RDP Linux Edition shares part numbers and license keys with RDP Windows Edition, none of the associated part numbers will be discontinued. However, the RDP Linux Edition software will not be updated to support new HP BladeSystem or other ProLiant servers or new versions of Linux operating systems. RDP Linux Edition version 1.30, which started shipping in October of 2005, is the last and final release.

HP recommends that customers using or interested in RDP Linux Edition start planning their transition to one of the replacement deployment software offerings. Each of these HP deployment solutions has a specific set of features and benefits, addressing a specific set of customer needs.
- HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack - Windows Edition (RDP-WE) is the Windows-hosted server deployment solution of choice for HP BladeSystem and other HP ProLiant servers, supporting the deployment of Windows, Linux and VMware server operating systems. This is the ideal replacement product for RDP-LE customers that have Windows servers and Windows knowledge in their environment. RDP-WE uses the same license files as RDP-LE and has a very similar user interface.
Licensing of HP ProLiant Essentials Rapid Deployment Pack (RDP) is not specific for the hosted operating system; users are able to implement Windows Edition or Linux Edition at their choice. Because of the fact that RDP-WE has the ability to deploy both Windows and Linux operating systems (as well as WMware ESX), users have widely adopted RDP-WE. Current licensees of RDP-LE have the immediate ability to switch over and begin using RDP-WE at no additional charge.
- HP Control Tower for HP BladeSystem is the new Linux-hosted blade server deployment tool of choice. This is the ideal replacement product for RDP-LE customers that require or prefer a Linux-hosted deployment solution and are only deploying HP BladeSystem servers. Until August 1, 2006 HP will offer a 1-for-1 license exchange from RDP Linux Edition to HP Control Tower. Get more information by filling out a transition information form.
- The recommended solution for customers who want to continuously manage and assure compliance of their HP and non-HP servers is HP OpenView Management Suite for Servers using Radia. Through continuous management of the environment, HP OpenView Configuration Management solutions ensures that each device has the right configuration in compliance with policy at all times to support the business. Customers can leverage their HP OpenView software configuration management infrastructure and investments where the scope of management extends beyond HP-only servers.
