HP's year of unshakeable progress leads to #1 spot in TBR commerical notebook PC study

NOV. 21, 2006 - HP's commercial notebook computers were named number one in customer satisfaction in the third-quarter 2006 Technology Business Research (TBR) commercial notebook study. HP outscored all other commercial notebook vendors, include Gateway and Dell (tied for #2) and Lenovo and Toshiba (tied for #3).
TBR's 3Q06 Corporate IT Buying Behavior & Customer Satisfaction Study: Notebooks is based on interviews with qualified respondents at 646 medium and large U.S. and Canadian establishments, primarily MIS/IT, systems management and purchasing managers.
According to TBR, HP's rise to the top has been one of tempered, sustainable progress with four consecutive reporting periods of improving positions.
"The transformation of HP – moving up from pace-setter to leadership status – can likely be tracked to a number of corporate initiatives, some of which date back at least a year and are just beginning to bear the fruits of the effort," says Julie Perron, Manager of Primary Research, TBR.
These changes include:
Product Design & Quality: HP launched an entirely new business notebook product portfolio last spring, incorporating seven new models that included significant changes in design elements focused on enhanced durability, reliable security and connectivity, and ease of use. Some models embrace unique design elements, such as an embedded optical drive in an ultra-portable model, often difficult to find.
Management Tools: HP is shipping HP Open View Configuration Management suite pre-loaded on all commercial notebooks. These tools help reduce management costs by helping IT managers deploy and monitor software applications throughout their infrastructure by assuring correct and consistent software configuration.
Technical Support: HP Instant Care remote troubleshooting has moved from the consumer base to SMBs. Unlike competitors' offerings of this type, HP's covers the entire ecosystem. HP offers a unique risk-free program with certain HP Care Pack extended warranties where customers receive rebates for unused warranties.
HP's satisfaction positions have ridden a wave of improvement throughout the year with its most impressive gains established across hardware reliability and repair time. In addition, HP presented with one full competitive strength for the all-important reliability measure, and exhibited no weaknesses.
