Connect your printers to the network with print servers

Print server advantages

Whether you connect your printers to the network with internal or external print servers (or a combination of both), users will notice an immediate improvement in printer performance. This is due to the following changes:
The printer is now connected to the network with a direct, fast connection rather than a slow parallel printer connection.
The computer does not need to wait to print before continuing with other activities. Print servers utilize the queuing of the file server to capture complete print jobs quickly, which frees the client to return to other work.
As the physical printing time is reduced, your users' productivity will increase since the printers and MFP's are more easily accessed. You are no longer limited to placing shared printers within a cable length of the file server. When you utilize print servers you can:
Place a printer or MFP anywhere you have a network connection.
Ensure that your network server remains securely out of the reach of the users.
Attach multiple printers to a print server to establish a common printer area.
Share the scanning function of your HP AIO over the network to maximize the utilization of this product.

Support multiple client operating systems

HP JetDirect print servers support Windows, Apple, Linux, and Unix clients.1 Does the marketing department have a group of Macintosh systems for page layout and a nice color LaserJet? Others in the company can have access to that printer using a print server.

Improved printer asset management

Print servers are intelligent products and can be managed remotely via a Web browser. Unlike client-connected printers, you can remotely manage print servers and their attached printers, so your printer management activities become easier. You can:
Locate all print servers and attached printers over the network.
Read information about printers and print drivers from your desktop.
Capture and list printers for reports.
Lock down printers and MFPs to prevent configuration changes by unauthorized personnel.
Remotely clear print jobs using print server control software rather than walking to the user's location and reworking their client computer.

In a nutshell

Print servers give you the ability to:
Consolidate, share, and get the greatest use out of your print network resources.
Free shared printers from being tied to a file server.
Distribute printers throughout your organization as your needs dictate.
Printing is faster, management is easier. Everyone wins.
