AiO maintenance

Keep your AiO running smoothly with regular maintenance. These handy solutions will help prevent problems and ensure peak performance.

Keeping your all-in-one in optimum condition

If you have an All-in-One device, keep an eye out for signs that it needs to be cleaned. For instance, if you notice ink, dust, or dirt on the unit, or if you see smudges or ink marks on your documents, it's time to get busy.

Spotless scanner

The scanner should be cleaned and recalibrated if there are black or white lines running through copies, sent faxes, or scanned items.

To clean the scanner path, follow these steps
1.  Disconnect the product from its power source.
2.  Open the document release door.
3.  If the long white strip (on the inside of the document release door) is dirty, clean it with a dry cotton swab. If dirt or debris remains on the strip, use a cotton swab with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the strip. (If using alcohol, apply a very small amount. Exposing internal parts to dripping alcohol can cause damage.)
4.  If the long strip of glass opposite the long white strip is dirty, clean it with a dry cotton swab. If dirt or debris remains on the glass strip, use a cotton swab with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the glass.
5.  Inspect each of the rollers in the scanner area for dirt and debris. Clean any dirty rollers with a lint-free cloth (such as lens tissues) dampened with a small amount of water.
6.  Inspect the pressure feet and pad for dirt or debris. If the pressure feet and pad are dirty, clean them with a lint-free cloth dampened with a small amount of water.
7.  Using a side-to-side motion, wipe the rollers, pads, and feet with a dry lint-free cloth to remove loosened dirt.
8.  Wait for the water to dry completely and then close the document release door

Aligning your ink-based cartridges

Color Inkjet printers use both black and color ink cartridges. You need to align these cartridges frequently so that the printer will drop the inks properly side by side, in a line of text, or within a graphic. In the following situations, use your printer's utility program to align the print cartridges.
1.  The black and color inks bleed together in printouts.
2.  Small gaps appear between color areas and black outlines in printouts.
3.  You remove or replace a print cartridge.
Follow the instructions in your user manual for exact directions to recalibrate your scanner. For more information about cleaning your All-in-One, refer to your user guide.

Updating drivers

A driver is a piece of software that makes a lot of decisions for your All-in-One. It controls the resolution and color and enables your machine to communicate with cameras and other products. Drivers are regularly updated, and new versions can fix problems and improve performance significantly, so it's important to make sure you have the most current drivers to keep your All-in-One running well. You can sign up for driver alerts that are relevant to your product at HP Technical Support.
