HP LaserJets ship with standard cartridges — not low-capacity ones — so you don't have to buy new supplies soon after your purchase.
In HP internal testing, the Samsung ML-1610 and ML-2010 shipped with low-capacity toner cartridges as compared to the standard cartridges that ship with the HP LaserJet 1020 and the HP LaserJet 1022. The Samsung models also have greater power needs than the HP LaserJets. The graph below illustrates the costs for each printer, beyond the purchase price.

NOTES: The LaserJet 1320 ships with 2500 pages worth of toner while the Samsung ML-2250 includes 5000 pages worth. The other 2500 pages costs $63. Power is based on $.10/KWhr, 8 hours in Standby each business day for 3 years. Paper costs are based on printing 80,000 pages, 40% paper savings with HP due to the automatic duplex unit @ 1 cent per page. CPP difference is based on an HP CPP of 2.15 cents vs. 1.9 for Samsung for 80,000 pages. Samsung requires a transfer roller at 60K pages (costs approx $40) and a fuser at 80K pages (costs approx $80).
