HP to Provide Free High-Availability Features for Its Award-Winning Line of ProCurve Networking by HP Switches
PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 7, 1999 -- Hewlett-Packard Company, a leader in networking
technologies, today announced a free software upgrade for select HP ProCurve
Networking switches that provides valuable high-availability features.
The upgrade, which is available for ProCurve Networking by HP Switch 1600m, 2400m, 2424m,
4000m, and 8000m, adds features such as switch meshing, Cisco's Fast EtherChannel,
and Layer 3 protocol filters, previously available only for the 1600m and 8000m.
This software helps ensure maximum network performance for mission-critical
applications and servers.
"This upgrade brings new value to the 10/100 wiring closet," said Jan Bell,
worldwide marketing manager of ProCurve Networking by HP. "Providing these features
is part of our commitment to offer customers the best value and investment protection."
The upgrades, part of HP's strategy to deliver proactive networking, allow
businesses to optimize their networks and are targeted for medium- to large-sized
organizations. This solution provides high-performance features, scalability,
and Ethernet flexibility, making setup and maintenance easy while ensuring optimum
network security.
Switch meshing delivers high-performance capabilities to the network by allowing
the construction of highly available, active, and redundant links among up to
12 switches. Cisco's Fast EtherChannel gives standard trunk connectivity with
Cisco switches and routers.
HP's software upgrade for the HP ProCurve Switch 1600m, 2400m, 2424m, 4000m,
and 8000m is expected to be available in October and can be downloaded free
of charge at ProCurve Networking by HP Site.
