HP Leads Networking Market Rebound

Customers Invest in Networking Despite Industry Slowdown

PALO ALTO, Calif., March 13, 2002 -- Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) today announced that it is leading the market rebound in the overall Ethernet (L2-L7) networking market.

According to the Dell'Oro Group, the market share for ProCurve Networking by HP products grew at over three times the market-wide growth rate from the year 2000 to 2001 in total Ethernet switching, with 31 percent growth versus industry growth of just 9 percent. Dell'Oro Group reports also show that ProCurve Networking by HP grew 21 percent in total Ethernet switching from the fourth quarter of 2000 to the fourth quarter of 2001 despite an industry decline of 14 percent during that period(1).

HP also led the market in gigabit growth and moved into the No. 2 market position in the L2 gigabit market, outpacing the market growth by almost four times with 146 percent growth versus industry growth of 37 percent from the year 2000 to 2001.

"We feel the market share numbers clearly indicate that the value ProCurve Networking by HP products represent has never been more compelling than it is right now," said John McHugh, general manager, HP Network Infrastructure Solutions Organization. "HP is offering what customers are looking for: solid, feature-rich networking solutions at great prices."
