Configuring the Daylight Time Rule

ProCurve switches may be configured to automatically adjust the system clock for Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes. However, the pre-defined setting for the Continental US conforms to the rules in effect before 2007. To configure the switch to conform to the new rules in effect for 2007, use one of the following methods. ProCurve recommends that you use the supplied dates so that DST is set correctly in the future.

Why March 8 if DST changes March 11?
Using the EXACT dates specified compensates for yearly date fluctuations. Doing so compensates for 2007 through at least 2015 (http://www.energy.ca.gov/daylightsaving.html#chart). The switch actually does the DST adjustment on the following Sunday of the date entered. So for March, 2007, the following Sunday is March 11th. However, for 2009 the DST change needs to happen on March 8th, so the March 8th begin time will still be valid for 2009 as well. This work around is valid for multiple years, not just 2007.

Note: If you make the changes below and then later load a software version that supports the new DST rules, you do not need to alter your existing configuration. The switch operates correctly.

Menu
Open the menu from the CLI. On the Switch Configuration / System Information menu screen, set the “Daylight Time Rule” to “User-defined”, set the “Beginning month to “March”, “Beginning day” to 8, “Ending month” to “November” and “Ending day” to 1.

Use arrow keys to change action selection and <Enter> to execute action

After making the entries in the menu screen, be sure to select Save and press Enter.

You may confirm your setting by reloading the menu screen or you may use the use the
show system-information command. ProCurve recommends that you use the supplied dates so that DST is set correctly in the future.
