Ross Perot, EDS founder

Ross Perot, EDS founder

EDS remains a leader in the technology services industry it invented. That’s evidenced from its first contracts with Collins Radio and Frito-Lay in 1962 – to the company’s more than $20 billion in annual revenues today. Take a look at EDS’ many milestones.

Founded in 1962, EDS has evolved from a $1,000 investment into a $20+ billion technology services industry leader. The people of EDS deserve the credit.

Vice Chairman Jeff Heller said: “EDS has always been just ordinary people who came here and achieved more than they ever thought possible because of the opportunity and support they found.”

Ordinary People, Extraordinary Achievements

1980's Data Center

The people who accomplished EDS' milestones were just regular folks, said Heller, a 38-year veteran.

Those “ordinary people” pioneered practices that are now centerpieces of the IT services industry. They include systems management, systems integration, centralized transaction processing, and the world's largest private digital voice, data and video network.

EDS people continue their innovative tradition by evolving the company's services into an intelligent network foundation. This facilitates online commerce through digital supply chain management, enabling product development over the Internet and developing security and privacy services.

For example, EDS developed the first automatic code generator, INCA. A systems-engineering tool, INCA preceded what became one of the industry's major transforming trends during the early-to-mid 1990s: computer-aided systems engineering tools. They became systems-engineering mainstays and multiplied programmers' productivity by generating millions of lines of routine code. This freed programmers to concentrate on higher-order problems.

EDS has always been just ordinary people who came here and achieved more than they ever thought possible because of the opportunity and support they found.

EDS also was the first to develop:

  • A method for using ATMs to transfer and deliver cash
  • A text-analysis tool that assesses documents' relevance to specific search criteria
  • A device that automatically sorts airline tickets. EDS built on this invention to command a leadership position in the airline-travel, agent ticket-clearing market during the 1980s

EDS builds on its strong services heritage of meeting, and exceeding, clients' needs every day – driving their business performance all along the way. Time and again, the people of EDS prove they never give up until the job is done for our clients.
