Proof-of-concept

Proof-of-concept projects allow you to demonstrate and measure the efficacy of new solutions. Your project will have dedicated technical consultants from HP and our partners, secure and private access to IT resources, and an independent meeting room. Proof of concept requires 2-3 weeks and includes:
  • Definition of the project-a test plan created and agreed upon by all parties
  • Infrastructure setup-based on your requirements and ready to use when you arrive
  • Technical checkpoints-including briefings and project reviews
  • Technical recommendations-based on results and data analysis
  • Detailed report-with comprehensive results
Proof-of-concept puts your mind at rest by demonstrating the actual performance your solution can hope to achieve, and helps to make sure it supports your expected workload. Proof-of-scale is particularly useful for capacity planning when considering the purchase of new hardware.

Porting and Migration Exercises

The HP Solution centers provide technical guidance for developers and customers when porting an application from one platform to another. HP can arrange full porting and migration services, offering developers, ISVs and E-commerce-based businesses access to HP services and expertise. HP can help developers to qualify, certify, test or tune their current solution on the latest HP platforms.

The HP Solution Centers can also help companies whose products or services have already been ported and tested on one family of HP systems, but require additional qualification on other HP systems. Porting and Migration services include consultation, assessments and direct migration and re-engineering activities in support of migrating the customer's application to an HP platform. Porting and migration can be conducted on-site at an HP Solution Center, or remotely via the Internet.

Web Testing

Many Web-based enterprises face the challenge greater success than they had predicted, and a corresponding need to rethink their e-commerce solutions. At the HP Solution Centers, we can stage a website and emulate a real-world environment that allows you to design a solution that will effective cope with the real thing. We have client machines ready to emulate the load of thousands of users against your site. After demonstrating the capacity of given application to grow along with traffic, we will help you reach the next level by performing 'what if' scenarios. We can replicate and test a solution safely on site at an HP Solution Center, or we can direct the load across the Internet to your site anywhere in the world. Continental Airlines, one of the world's largest transportation providers used tested just such a solution at an HP Solution Center.

Solution/Technical Benchmarking

Benchmarks are standard performance-measuring tests run on a computer, peripheral device, or application. A benchmark may attempt to indicate the overall throughput of a system by including a "typical" mixture of programs or may attempt to measure more specific aspects of performance, like graphics, I/O, or computation (e.g. integer or floating-point). Others measure specific tasks like rendering polygons, reading and writing files, or performing operations on matrices. While no one benchmark can fully characterize overall system performance, the results of a variety of realistic benchmarks can give valuable insight into expected real performance. HP Solution Center experts can help you tailor a benchmark specifically to your solution, providing valuable feedback that will allow you to assess the expected performance of an application or device in a real-world scenario. CompUSA utilized the HP Solution Center in Cupertino, CA to perform benchmark tests on HP Integrity servers, and discovered the processes requiring 14 hours on their existing infrastructure could be performed in 33 minutes using the Integrity servers.

Analytical Modeling

Leading research and educational facilities come to HP for the most powerful computers on the planet. They map out interstellar space, perform seismic analysis, and even map the human genome. HP Solution Centers can also help you to take an analytic approach to performance issues, by working with simulation tools like Queuing Network models and Bounds Analysis. This is best done when neither proof-of-concept nor benchmarking is feasible because of the scope of the planned configuration.
