Because telecommunications providers expect their NEBS racks to withstand earthquakes with equipment installed and functioning, strength is a high priority in a NEBS rack. The side walls have cross bracing, and rack parts are welded together, rather than bolted, for strength. The front and rear doors lock at the top and bottom to prevent opening during a seismic event. Seismic racks are also bolted to the floor with concrete or raised floor anchors, because they could easily tip over during a seismic event.
Telecommunication providers also require equipment deployed in Central Office facilities to meet NEBS Level-3 and ETSI certifications.
