Product Number A4930A

The PCI Token ring adapter allows users to easily integrate Hewlett-Packard PCI servers into existing Token ring environments. This option allows the customer investment protection of their existing environment while upgrading to Hewlett-Packard's latest high-performance servers.

The PCI Token ring adapter supports the IEEE 802.5 Token-Ring standards definition. The adapter supports networking on the V-Class systems via the PCI bus specifications on HP-UX 11.00.

The PCI Token ring adapter runs at 16 or 4 Mbps over STP cabling (via a RJ-45 connector or 9-pin, D-shell connector) and UTP (via a RJ-45 connector) without the need for user selection. No more than one data cable may be connected to the PCI Token ring adapter at a time. The adapter also operates in full-duplex mode when connected to a full duplex capable switch (Dedicated Token ring#0S2:DTR).

The PCI Token ring NIC operates at a bus speed of 33 MHz, is based on the 3x5 inch Form Factor, requires no switches to be set for installation and is PCI 2.0 and 2.1 compliant.

Key features

  • The PCI Token ring adapter initial release supports the V-class servers running HP-UX 11.00 64-bit operating system.
  • PCI 2.0 and 2.1 compliant
  • IEEE 802.5 Standards compliant
  • ANSI X3T11 Standards compliant
  • PCI Token ring interface supports Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) cabling with RJ-45 and Shielded Twisted-Pair (STP) cabling with both a RJ-45 connector or a 9-pin, D-shell connector.
  • Data transmission at 4 or 16 Mbps
  • The PCI Token ring adapter card is customer configurable.
  • Automatic ring-speed detection and selection (detection overrides user selection if set incorrectly)
  • Dedicated Token ring (DTR) operation when connected to a full duplex capable switch
  • Streams transports for TCP/IP, UDP/IP, ARPA, and SNA.
  • Support services for NFS, Internet Services
  • Supports XTI (X/Open Transport Interface#0S2:used for writing network applications)
  • Supports Token ring source routing#0S2:determine the routes to any reachable destination via the Routing Information Field (RIF)
  • STM (Support Tools Manager) support: information, exerciser, and verifier modules.
  • HP DLPI (Data Link Provider Interface) interface support
  • Provides Type I connectionless service, and Type II connection oriented network service via DLPI.
  • MP (multi-processor) scaleable
  • High Availability/Service Guard support
  • IP multicast support
  • Promiscuous mode (link and SAP) support
  • Coexists with existing V-class networking links
