The HIPPI protocol was originally designed by scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratories in 1986. The initial standard was ratified in 1988. Today, HIPPI technology is deployed in most of
the Fortune 250 companies -- high-performance technical data centers. HIPPI may be used in a point-to-point or switched fabric topology.

Installation policy
The PCI HIPPI-800 adapter is customer installable and configurable on N-Class systems. On V-Class systems, it is recommended that only qualified HP field
representatives access the V-Class server internal I/O subsystem.
