This document contains the latest information on peripherals that can be used with HP 1000 Computers. It is commonly referred to as the "Peripherals Support Matrix".
IMPORTANT - PLEASE DISCARD ALL PREVIOUS UPDATES !!!
For the latest changes to this matrix please see What's New below.
For a complete history of the changes made to this matrix please see Change Highlights history at the end of this document.
Peripheral categories
The following keys are used to define the various "Support"
categories. Since every possible configuration involving these
products cannot be evaluated, unless otherwise noted -
"SUPPORT" refers only to "STAND-ALONE" items.
| Support Term |
Support Term Definition/Explanation |
| Yes |
Appropriate drivers exist. This device has been tested, and
is supported by HP. (NOTE - For devices which can be connect-
ed either via HP-IB or RS-232 interfaces, "Yes" means that
the product is "Supported" on both types of interface.
Appropriate RFI testing in both "stand-alone" and in "system"
configurations has been performed and passed. |
| No |
Drivers do not exist, and the device will not work. RFI test-
ing in a system config has not been done. (RFI testing of the
"stand-alone" product has been done. |
| Unsupt |
Drivers exist, but the device has NOT been tested by HP. The
customer may attach the device, but does so entirely at his
own risk. HP will not offer a support contract on customer -
generated configurations. RFI testing of only the "stand-
alone" product has been done. |
| HP-IB |
Drivers exist, but the device has only been tested with, and
is only supported in configurations using, HP-IB interfaces. |
| SCSI |
Drivers exist, but the device has only been tested with, and
is only supported in configurations using, SCSI interfaces. |
| RS-232 |
Drivers exist, but the device has only been tested with, and
is only supported in configurations using), RS-232 interfaces. |
| 6.X |
Support for this device will occur at O/S revision 6.X. |
What's New
Changes effective with the 10/5/99 matrix -
New Disks and DDS drives have been certified for the A-Series.
These devices come from two different vendors, Bering and Gedanken.
Note: You will need to order these devices directly from
these vendors. Check their web sites
(Gedanken or
Bering Technology, Inc.)
for more information.
The Bering disk drive (Model 800H - Option 04) is a SCSI
drive with a 4.5GB capacity. One DDS II drive has also been
qualified (Model 800H Option 42 8GB).
The HP1000 hardware peripherals that Gedanken supports are
both called the Zip1K, and there are two models, the model T
(table top enclosure) and the model R (Rack mount enclosure).
Both models come standard with a 100MB removable ZIP
cartridge drive and a 4GB HDD, and use the SCSI interface.
Options include: option MO (magneto-optic drive) and option DT
(DDS tape drive).

^ - WORM (Write once read many) mode is NOT supported on RTE-A
# - Hard disc storage is fixed/removeable.
+ - Will work as a load device using single sided 3 1/2" mflops, IF:
1) system is regenerated to include product number of peripheral, and
2) single-sided media is only read once. (See product champ for details)
& - Diagnostics can be loaded from a 9144, load support on RTE-6 for updates
ONLY. (NOTE - Special Loader ROM needed = P/N 93702A, Contact "Specials")

| *** EVERY SYSTEM REQUIRES BOTH A BOOT DEVICE AND A LOAD DEVICE EITHER *** |
| *** PACKAGED SEPARATELY OR INTEGRATED TOGETHER INTO ONE PERIPHERAL. *** |
BOOT DEVICE = a supported device on which the operating system can reside when
the system is down. This peripheral will then allow the operating system
to be loaded into memory when the system is booted up.
LOAD DEVICE = a supported device which accepts the media that SWT uses to
distribute software (i.e., primary systems, drivers, compilers, etc., and
software updates).
NOTE: INCOMPATIBILITIES EXIST FOR MICROFLOPPIES FORMATTED ON EXTERNAL
DEVICES WHEN USED WITH INTEGRATED DOUBLE SIDED MICROFLOPPIES
OFFERED WITH MICROSYSTEMS. CONSULT FACTORY FOR DETAILS.
NOTE: microfloppies not available as system media for model 26/27/29 systems.

for manufacturing environments.
Terminals The 700/41 terminal has been removed from the list
of even "partially supported" (H/W only) terminals
for the A-Series. Although the H/W can be connect-
ed to the A-Series and will work, major efforts
must be expended before any S/W, including the O/S
or any utilities, will work.
Changes effective with the 6/16/89 matrix -
Disc Drives The 9262B and the 9263B are now also supported.
These are products very similar to the 7962B and
7963B, except they are targetted for applica-
tions requiring "secure" products.
They use the same power supply, HP-IB I/F, I/O
PCA, PCA controller, and mechanism. The 9262B has
one 152 MB removable mechanism, and the 9263B has
one 304 MB removable mechanism.

Terminals Update and correction made to 3082A status
Changes effective with the 9/29/88 matrix -
Terminals Although the 264X terminals have been discontinued,
the Lab has re-visited this issue and has verified
that these products actually had been RFI tested
previously and should be considered "supported".
7936/37 These products had been previously listed as "A"
versions. In actuality, they should have been
listed as "H" versions.
New Products Support plans for several new products have been
included in the matrix. These products include
the 9145A, 7979A/80A, and 9144A as a boot device.

Discs Clarification of the status of the 795X products.
Terminals Expanded comments regarding the 3082A terminal
Following is a 5/20/88 "Correction" to the previous issue...
Printers The 9122C has been listed as "Supported" in the
previous issues of the "Printers" section, but
listed in the "Mass Storage Device Support" table
as "Testing in Process - Not Released Yet!
At this time, the product has not completed RFI
testing and therefore CANNOT be considered as a
"Supported". This support will occur at 5.1, at
which time the 9122C will be supported ONLY on
RTE-A (including as a Boot device), but NOT on
RTE-VI. It will also NOT be supported as a Load
device on RTE-A.
Following is the only change made in this 4/5/88 version of the "Matrix"
Printers Added HP-IB and RS-232 to the 2225A and 2225D
descriptions, respectively. Also deleted the
