| Question |
What about SW Support for HP-UX on HP 9000? |
| Answer |
HP-UX 11i v1 and v2 will be fully supported through 2013 and HP-UX 11i V3 will be supported through 2017. At HP’s discretion, support may be further extended beyond these dates. If HP considers this technically feasible, customers who have an HP-UX Software Technical Services contract will receive commercially reasonable effort SW support for their supported environment. With this level of support, problem identification and troubleshooting may take longer and in some instances, HP may not be able to determine a solution. Should HP determine that no existing resolution for the problem exists, HP will discontinue work on the problem. HP reserves the right to terminate commercially reasonable effort SW support, if continuing support is not feasible. |

| Question |
Can a customer transfer HP-UX software licenses from HP 9000 servers to HP Integrity servers?
|
| Answer |
Software support agreements entitle customers to trade in software licenses for no additional cost, trading in software licensed on HP 9000 systems for ‘like’ software licenses on HP Integrity servers, using HP’s cross-platform software license trade-in policy.
For example, a Tier 1 license can only be transferred to another Tier 1 system. Per-Processor Licenses are valid for all systems within an HP 9000 or HP Integrity server family.
Customers whose software is not covered under a support agreement will be eligible for a discount on new licenses. |
| Question |
What’s the implication of the new HP-UX 11i v3 OEs on a customer who has the original OEs? |
| Answer |
As of April 2008, HP is shipping HP-UX 11i v3 in new Operating Environments (OEs). The new OEs – Base OE, Virtualization OE, High Availability OE and Data Center OE, replace the original ones – Foundation OE, Enterprise OE and Mission Critical OE.
The new OEs are only available for HP-UX 11i v3, and deliver more high-value software than the original OEs. For example, the Virtualization OE (VSE-OE) includes all the software in the VSE Suite for HP-UX 11i.
Customers with support contracts are entitled to upgrade to v3 with the new OEs at no additional cost. The diagram below illustrates the mapping for trading original OEs to the new v3.
