Microsoft® has released Windows® XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). It establishes stronger security settings that help defend against viruses, hackers and worms along with unique new security features designed to make it easier for you to protect your PC.
  • Pop-up blocking that gives you the option to block unwanted and annoying pop-ups
  • New "Safe Attachment Service" that helps protect against viruses that spread through your e-mail and instant messaging
  • Automatic update enhancements optimized for low bandwidth scenarios to more efficiently download updates
  • Updated Windows® Firewall that helps protect against many network-based attacks
  • Bluetooth update that lets you take advantage of the latest Bluetooth wireless devices
  • Data Execution Protection that reduces the risk of buffer overrun attacks by preventing the execution of code from data pages in virtual memory

Things To Know Before You Get Started

  1. Before installing SP2, check to see if there are any drivers from HP you need to download first:

  2. SP2 Support from Microsoft is available by email, online or phone (see below).



  3. Installing SP2 - when you are ready to install SP2, SP2 is available from Microsoft via download or CD order.

* HP recommends a minimum of 256 MB of RAM on Windows XP computers that are upgraded to Service Pack 2. Depending on how you use your computer, and the applications you have added, you may want to consider 512 MB of RAM for optimized performance.

To Check Your System Memory:

  1. Press the "Start" key
  2. Select "Control Panel"
  3. Select either "System" (in Classic View) or, in Category View: "Performance and Maintenance" and then the "System" icon. The amount of MB of RAM will be displayed on the "General" Tab of the "System Properties".
