This statement is made in order to counter certain information and rumor which may have come into HP's customer's hands
about the J6057A 615n EIO card and failures that have been experienced by customers. The purpose of this memo is to explain
the nature of potential J6057A 615n failures and Hewlett-Packard's warranty policy regarding them.
Customers and resellers should also note that this HP process is subject to change or cancellation at any time without
notice, applies only to authentic HP products and only to cards within warranty.
See http://www.hp.com/go/hp-jetdirect/buyer-protection
for guidelines regarding how to determine if your product is authentic. Questions about this HP process can be directed
to the HP Customer Care Center. Contact information for the Customer Care Center can be found by going
to http://www.hp.com and selecting "Contact HP".
1. J6057A 615n EIO Failure Description
A small percentage of the installed base of J6057A 615n EIO cards may experience certain problems. These cards,
sometimes after many months of operation, may suddenly fail. The failure modes are the following: (a) an 80 Service Error
during printer power up with the 615n EIO card installed and no error reported on printer on power-up when the 615n EIO
card has been removed, or (b) the 615n EIO card is physically installed, but is not reported by the printer as being
installed. Because of the nature of the failure, failing cards must be gathered and cross-referenced in order to determine
if any trends exist. This process is on-going.
2. J6057A 615n EIO Warranty Statement
HP may provide replacement cards for authentic HP 615n EIO cards which fail within the original warranty period.
Warranty extensions will be granted where appropriate until October 31, 2008 for original purchaser with proof of purchase.
A valid form of proof of purchase is a standard business receipt from a 615n-bundled printer or separate J6057A 615n 10/100
card purchase. HP may request additional information in order to determine authenticity of the 615n EIO cards and
entitlement to warranty status.
NOTE: The J6057A 615n EIO card is no longer in production and is no longer being sold by Hewlett-Packard. It has been
replaced by the J7934A 620n EIO card.
3. Warranty Replacement
Any replacement EIO card sent out to replace a failed 615n EIO to correct this problem will come with its standard HP
warranty (a limited warranty of one year). Please see the product documentation for more information. This replacement
product may be another 615n EIO card or a different EIO card, subject to support inventory.
4. Customers buying refurbished J6057A 615n EIO cards
Hewlett-Packard does not refurbish J6057A 615n EIO cards. Customers that purchase refurbished J6057A 615n EIO cards are
not protected by a Hewlett-Packard warranty. Customers purchasing refurbished J6057A 615n EIO cards need to work with the
seller of those cards in case there is a need for a warranty replacement.
5. Reseller Guidelines
A reseller can return cards to HP only if they have a valid Purchase Order number in which they purchased the J6057A
615n EIO products from HP. If the reseller purchased the J6057A 615n EIO products from a vendor other than HP, then they
must return their products to that vendor. Resellers should instruct their customers to call the Hewlett-Packard Customer Care
Center if the reseller does not have a valid purchase order from HP, unless the reseller was selling refurbished products,
in which case, they must handle the warranty exchange without HP involvement.
6. HP Recommended Products
For buying replacement EIO print servers, HP recommends choosing the following EIO print servers as an alternative to
buying used EIO print servers:
J7934G 620n 10/100TX EIO Print Server
J7960G 625n 10/100/1000T EIO Print Server
J7961G 635n IPv6/IPsec/Gigabit EIO Print Server
These products can be authenticated by the customer as authentic Hewlett-Packard products. Please refer to the
