Description
This firmware update utility is for the HP LaserJet P2015 series printers only. This update is recommended for HP LaserJet P2015 series printers that have a version prior to 20080312. This utility updates the printer's firmware version to 20080312 (March 12, 2008). The firmware version can be found on the Self Test/Device Configuration page. To print a configuration page press and hold the Go button for 5 seconds when printer Ready light is on and no other jobs are printing or select it from the Print Information Pages drop-down list on the Service tab in Printer Preference.
This executable FW update utility is for P2015 series flashable unit only.
Check to see if the customer has the firmware that we can flash. Print a configuration page from the printer by holding the go button until the go light and ready light begin to flash. Check the Formatter Number listed under Product Information on the configuration page. If the 3rd digit from the left is a 2, 1 or 0 the firmware can be flashed.
The customer can also check the Formatter Number from the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or Toolbox FX. From either application the formatter number can be found under Status > Device Configuration > Formatter Number
Firmware Version 20080312 fix:
- Font issue on non-windows based application, such as SAP and PCL 5e legacy applications
- Bad/Missing E-labels will prevent the printer from printing.
- QIP/DHCP (an issue with configuration, or addressed in the 300 bytes issue)
- DHCP (Not sending DHCPDISCOVERYREQUEST only sending bootp request)
- DHCP/BootP requests that are shorter than the BootP minimum of 300 bytes.
- Losing IP - Printer will not keep IP address.
- Ability to change the host name of the printer. (Host Name is not sticking)
- P/S in Unix job is formatting incorrectly
- Network lockups -Printer will lockup when sitting idle on the NW
- Bad/Missing E-labels will prevent the printer from printing.
- Printer lock-up when changing the Embedded Web Server (EWS) default language from English to German or Czech.
- When the NW connector experienced a link loss, the network PHY and ASIC UMAC block were not properly resetting.
- Disable network reset by pressing "cancel" and "go" button simultaneously.

Installation Instructions
Firmware update process:
- The HP LaserJet P2015 series Firmware Update Utility can be performed using a USB port only. Do not use the parallel port connection for the update.
- The HP LaserJet P2015 series software must be installed prior to using this firmware update utility.
- The HP LaserJet P2015 series printer must be in a READY state. The "Ready" light must be on before beginning the firmware update, and remain powered on during the entire firmware update process.
This utility is for use on Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

MS Windows Instructions for printer firmware update:
Depending on the speed of your PC, the firmware update process may complete on the printer, before the progress bar on the screen completes.
Once the update process has started, do not use your PC for other activity until the process is complete.
- Download the file to the desktop.
- Turn the printer off and then back on to clear main printer memory.
- Double click on the flash update utility file. A Window "LaserJet P2015 Firmware Update 20080312" will open.
- In the window adjacent to the "select printer to update" use the drop down arrow to select the HP LaserJet P2015 series driver. If you have previously assigned a different name to the HP Laser Jet P2015 series, choose the name that represents the P2015 series printer.
- Click on the "Send Firmware" button in the "LaserJet P2015 Firmware Update 20080312" dialog window.
- The progress bar will begin to move to the right indicating information being transferred.
- Do not power cycle the printer or the PC during this process or the printer may become unstable and or unusable without further attention from HP. The firmware update can take up to 5 minutes to complete. Please be patient.
- On the display of the PC, a smiling face will appear in the "LaserJet P2015 Firmware Update 20080312" dialog box, which does not mean the firmware update is completed. The success of firmware update is indicated by the ready state (green LED is on) of LEDs.
- During the printer firmware update, the printer LEDs will begin flashing. When the LEDs return to a ready state (green LED is on), it is necessary to power off the printer and then power on again.
- If it is desired to verify the update, a configuration page can be printed from the printer. To print a configuration page Press and hold the Go button for 5 seconds when printer Ready light is on and no other jobs are printing or select it from the Print Information Pages drop-down list on the Service tab in Printer Preference. The configuration page will display the current firmware revision in the Product information block, Firmware Datecode: 20080312.
System Requirements
- This utility is for use on Windows 2000, XP and Vista. It can only be used with USB connections.
- HP LaserJet P2015 series printer driver must be installed.
- Must be able to print to the HP LaserJet P2015 series.
Note: The firmware update cannot be completed through parallel connection.
