What is it?

A new security subsystem that strengthens the security of Customers’ systems running with Windows as operating system; previously called Cornerstone

Benefit:

  • New security subsystem that strengthens the security of customers’ systems running with Windows as operating system, even when the system is in non-authorized hands or is run under a different operating system or application (such as Linux).
  • Solid protection of Microsoft root key (commonly known as Syskey); protected with TPM in hardware instead of just software. It makes intrusions more difficult to happen.
  • The integrity metric verifies the system specific characteristics in order to identify any change since the last reliable initialization. If the characteristics differ, some or all the system functions or access to certain data will be restricted.
  • It helps prevent a thief from initializing another operating system or running an intrusion tool to crack the system and Windows file protections.

Notes:

  • Secure start requires TPM 1.2 hardware and integrity metrics of the BIOS
  • It provides optimized resources for server certification and reliable process execution after the system is initialized. For further information, refer to the frequently asked questions in www.trustedcomputinggroup.org
The chips that provide support to the Trusted Platform Module standard are in the market, but the new version, TPM 1.2,will be Longhorn. HP, base. For example, HP is planning to start selling by the end of summer a new Broadcom TPM 1.2 chip business desktop.
