Kate Swanborg   Kate Swanborg
Kate Swanborg currently works as the Technology Executive at DreamWorks Animation. In this role, Kate collaborates with Executive Staff, Senior Technology Managers and Film Producers to develop strategies and action plans for producing multiple animated feature films and creating state-of-the-art technology tools and infrastructure. Specific examples of this type of collaboration include: the DWA’s strategic move to Linux, the studio’s real-time lighting initiative and DWA’s latest directive to develop tools and workflows that support the ambition to release all of its feature films in stereoscopic 3D by spring of 2009.
Kate is responsible for the Technology Production Managers and Coordinators, who are the direct liaisons between production and technology; managing the integration of technology solutions for production.
In addition, Kate has played a key role in transitioning DWA productions from a traditionally animated to a fully computer generated medium. Kate has helped incorporate digital workflows into traditional departments, focusing the technical priorities of eight active productions, and integrating multiple collaboration tools and methodologies. Currently, one of the team’s major initiatives is to prepare the studio for the launch of the DreamColor monitor – which will set a new standard for desktop approval capabilities. These types of efforts have helped DreamWorks Animation become the only studio to consistently release two animated features each year. In 2008 DWA will release the films Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Each of these films uses a vast array of technology and digital resources to push the boundary of what is possible in computer animated filmmaking from furry, clothed, kung-fu fighting animals to lush jungle environments and expansive savannahs with crowds of characters.
Prior to her work in the technology field, Kate worked in feature animation production management and has worked on such films as the Shrek and Space Jam. Kate holds a Masters Degree in theatrical management from the University of California, San Diego and a Bachelor of Arts from Western Michigan University.
