INSERT UK DATELINE, June 2, 2008 - HP today announced that it is sponsoring the Cambridge University Eco Racing (CUER) team, including providing its latest technology that will be used to enhance the design, build and operation of the solar racing vehicle as it prepares to race in the 2009 World Solar Challenge.

HP mobile workstations, handhelds and business notebooks will be used to manage and analyze solar power consumption and mechanical performance data of the CUER’s inaugural car, "Affinity". In addition, HP workstations will be used to enhance the overall performance and aerodynamic design of the vehicle.

CUER's first big test comes in June 2008 when Affinity tours from Land’s End to John O'Groats, stopping at various points to raise environmental awareness. Affinity will also race from Victoria Falls to Cape Town in January 2009 as part of Zero Rally Africa - a carbon-neutral car rally crossing Zambia, Namibia and South Africa -- designed to demonstrate the viability and practicality of planet friendly vehicles.

HP's workstations are designed to meet the needs of some of the most computing-intensive industries, including animation, graphic design, architecture, photography, high-definition video, manufacturing, finance, scientific imaging and oil and gas exploration.

HP has provided Cambridge University Eco Racing with its powerful HP Workstations and HP Compaq mobile workstations, which CUER is using to model the massive range of minute design variations that will affect the car's performance and analyze the car's performance against external factors such as weather and road conditions.

In addition, checks on the car - such as tire pressures and battery levels - will be made at rest stops by connecting it with the HP Compaq Tablet PC. The Cambridge University Eco Racing team will also be using a wireless HP Officejet H470wbt mobile printer, four HP iPAQ Travel Companion satellite navigation devices and four HP iPAQ 214 handheld devices.
