Bring a public park alive with a swashbuckler’s adventure complete with virtual loot waiting to be unearthed. Tour the Tower of London alongside ghostly guides who reveal the history within. Conduct disaster simulations for emergency responders on real city streets.

It's all possible with a GPS-enabled mobile device and an mscape you either download or build yourself.

Mscapes (short for mediascapes) are digital experiences directly related to where you are. Running on GPS-enabled mobile devices, they change as you move around, enriching the physical world with a layer of digital information, services and media.

Mscapes can be anchored to a specific location or work in a generic space, like a large playing field. Changes in location, time or proximity to particular places trigger media files – a new task, an audio clue, a visual reenactment – making for experiences that are unpredictable, memorable and entertaining.

The experiences are social, too. Mscapers interact with one another as they play, and they can share mediascapes they’ve created.

To experience a mediascape, download HP’s free mscape player onto a GPS-enabled mobile device (Windows Mobile 2003 or newer). Then choose an experience and play: Ranging from the pirate game 'Doubloons' to tours and adventures at destinations like Shanghai’s Peoples Park and the Tower of London, all mscapes are free at www.mscapers.com.

Want to make your own? Mscapers.com offers a free authoring toolkit (Windows Vista or XP), wizards for on-line authoring, and discussion forums where you can learn from and interact with other mscapers.
