This series of training sessions addresses a common
problem among the OpenVMS community. As IT departments
reduce (through retirement or layoffs) the number of
experienced personnel who support their OpenVMS systems, as
a community we must embrace a “Back to the Basics” strategy.
This includes a definition of some Best Practices for
OpenVMS.
These Best Practices can help all OpenVMS users better
understand their responsibilities and best approaches to
attain greater reliability and performance. Using Host Based
Volume Shadowing, this initial virtual training session will
introduce the general approach used to present the Best
Practices for OpenVMS.
Upcoming sessions will deal with Volume Shadowing over
Extended SANs, Volume Shadowing and Disaster Tolerance,
OpenVMS and EVA storage arrays, as well as OpenVMS and XP
disk arrays.
Objectives:
Learn about and be able to communicate:
- The objective of Best Practices for OpenVMS
- The methods used to document and demonstrate
performance implications
- The need to document implications for availability
and reliability
- The need to understand exceptions and how to
properly apply Best Practices for OpenVMS
- The fundamental Best Practices for Host Based Volume
Shadowing
