HP ProCurve Integrates Colubris Product Line;
Announces New Wireless Product

PALO ALTO, Calif., Nov. 10, 2008

HP ProCurve today announced the integration of the Colubris Networks product line into the existing ProCurve networking portfolio, as well as a new 802.11n wireless access point that enables high-bandwidth applications across a network.

The new integrated product family is the result of HP’s Oct. 1 acquisition of Waltham, Mass.-based Colubris Networks. The combined portfolio gives customers a choice of fully integrated and overlay wireless solutions that leverage investments in existing network infrastructure and deliver broad interoperability with multi-vendor 802.11 client devices.

The HP ProCurve MSM410 single-radio 802.11n access point is an indoor access point designed for discrete installation inside hotels, hospitals dormitories and office environments.

In addition, HP ProCurve’s aggressive management integration plans include an updated version of ProCurve Manager that adds the ability to automatically discover, map and initiate management of any Colubris product and give customers a single view of their wired and wireless network topology.

“The rapid integration of two product lines was achieved in less than 45 days and illustrates the power of an open-standards strategy and our dedication to delivering secure, scalable and unified wireless networks that customers demand,” said Marius Haas, senior vice president and general manager, HP ProCurve. “Adding the unique capabilities of the Colubris product line helps ProCurve lead the way in next-generation intelligent edge networking.”

The new HP ProCurve mobility product line is scalable to support a range of organizations, from large enterprises to small and medium-sized businesses, and is complemented by RF planning and security solutions to ensure smooth deployments and compliance with security regulations, including HIPAA and PCI. In addition, the existing Colubris line of indoor access points and the new MSM410 802.11n access point are backed by HP ProCurve’s lifetime warranty. (1)

“WLAN has evolved from a niche technology to the primary mode of network access in education, healthcare, and other industries. The acquisition and integration of Colubris Networks by HP ProCurve enhances the HP access networking portfolio today and HP’s ability to innovate in the access layer,” said Abner Germanow, Enterprise Networks Research Director, IDC. “IDC expects HP and competitors to continue driving the cost of operating WLANs down while improving performance and reliability.”

“The addition of the Colubris product line extends HP ProCurve’s reach into vertical markets, such as hospitality, transportation, healthcare, manufacturing, service provider and education, with no overlap in the channel,” said Tim Beech, technical marketing manager for Howard Technology Solutions of Laurel, Miss. “The Colubris acquisition not only allows ProCurve to deliver a stronger wired and wireless solution, but also to address opportunities in the wireless overlay market, delivering even more best-in-class choices for customers worldwide.”

Pricing and availability

The HP ProCurve MSM410 single-radio 802.11n access point will be available for $649.(2) The entire Colubris product line, including the new MSM410, will be available through HP ProCurve distribution channels in January 2009.
