HP Appoints Corporate Communications Veteran and Former Journalist to Lead Media Relations PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 7, 2004 HP today announced that Robert Sherbin has been named vice president of HP Corporate Media Relations. Sherbin, formerly vice president of Corporate Communications at Gateway, brings a track record of leadership and communications expertise to his new post. His experience is bolstered by an early career in journalism, including positions as a news reporter with the Dow Jones News Service and later as the manager of its Nordic and Hong Kong bureaus. As vice president of Corporate Media Relations, Sherbin will help shape HP's communications strategy and manage its relationship with the media. "Bob's global experience provides him with a deep understanding of the range of issues affecting regional markets and how messages and activities must be linked to an overall global strategy," said Allison Johnson, senior vice president, Corporate Marketing, HP. "He joins our team with an in-depth understanding of the media and an appreciation for establishing trusted relationships." Sherbin has more than a decade of experience in corporate communications with global companies, including HSBC Group, First Pacific, Gateway Asia Pacific and Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific. In 2003, he returned to Gateway, where he most recently led the Corporate Communications department following the company's acquisition of eMachines and had responsibility for all media relations, among other duties. Sherbin received his undergraduate degree in English from Kalamazoo College in Michigan and a master of science degree in journalism from Northwestern University.
