HP Color-locking Technology "Advances" Paper Print Quality

Proprietary technology provides richer, darker black and more vibrant color text and graphics vs. ordinary papers

PALO ALTO, Calif., Sept. 20, 2004

HP today announced new paper featuring its proprietary color-locking technology that greatly enhances the quality of color prints. HP Advanced Paper enables customers to generate prints that dry quickly and exhibit superior water resistance.

The color-locking technology includes two paper additives that help retain the colorants in HP inks near the surface of the paper, resulting in richer, darker black text and more vibrant colored text and graphics. Colors appear rich and vivid and solid areas appear smoother and more uniform.

In addition to improved image quality, the paper additives greatly improve water resistance, preventing colors from streaking or smearing when exposed to water. Faster ink dry times allow prints to be handled soon after printing, with little or no smearing.

"Co-developed in partnership with International Paper, a leading worldwide paper manufacturer, the new HP Advanced Paper is ideal for individuals and small- and medium-size businesses that require document prints with high-quality color and black text," said William K. Smith, vice president and general manager, Supplies Media Business, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "Today's introduction expands HP's portfolio of paper that makes printing high-quality color documents easier and more affordable for customers."

Although most significantly improved for inkjet printing, HP Advanced Paper is also tested for trouble-free use with all office printing equipment, such as laser printers, copiers and fax machines.

Availability and pricing

HP Advanced Paper is expected to begin shipping in January 2005 for an estimated U.S. street price of $5.99 per ream(1) and is expected to be available at office product stores in North America.
