HP Bolsters Output Management Portfolio with Introduction of Output Server 3.4.1 Also introduces HP International Printing Solution, enabling printing in multiple languages PALO ALTO, Calif., July 1, 2004HP today expanded its portfolio of output management solutions with the addition of HP Output Server 3.4.1. HP Output Server 3.4.1 enables customers to maintain a central monitoring point for all input and output of documents by allowing them to deliver content flexibly and reliably to multiple output destinations, such as print, fax, Web and e-mail. HP also announced the HP International Printing Solution, which enables printing in multiple languages - an important consideration for companies with print networks that span throughout multiple geographic regions. "HP is committed to the Output Server market and has invested heavily in HP Output Server 3.4.1 to answer the demands of our customers," said Sharon Jones, vice president, Enterprise Solutions, Imaging and Printing Group, HP. "A critical tool for managing virtually any business process, HP Output Server helps enterprises ensure business process continuity, and helps them positively impact their bottom line." HP Output Server SAP recently validated the importance of the HP Output Server by including the software as a key component in SAP's IT Service & Application Management portfolio - an initiative focused on helping large enterprises lower the total cost of IT operations. Key improvements to HP Output Server 3.4.1 include:
U.K.-based analyst firm Strategy Partners advises clients on document management, business process and content management technologies, solutions, and markets. A specific area of focus for the firm is document output management services, which correlates directly with the HP Output Server product suite. "Our market surveys show the increasing value of composition and print management products that are scalable and pre-integrated," said Rory Staunton, head of research, Strategy Partners. "These result in a lower cost of ownership than the individual components that they supercede." PacifiCorp, which serves 1.5 million electricity customers in six western states, relies on HP Output Server to manage data flow between its data centers in Portland, Ore., and Salt Lake City, Utah. With the help of HP Output Server, PacifiCorp manages more than 165,000 print, fax and e-mail transactions per month. As PacifiCorp's needs have grown, the HP Output Server has scaled with the company and as a result, the flow of information throughout the company has never been more reliable. "While we've nearly tripled our printed output since implementing HP Output Server, I remain the only operator needed to manage this substantial increase in volume," said Jennifer Mead, UNIX system administrator, PacifiCorp. "Without Output Server, we would likely need more staff to manage the same amount of throughput." HP International Printing Solution In addition to the convenience of printing in multiple languages, the HP International Printing Solution enables substantial cost-savings by eliminating the need for companies to make costly and time-consuming adjustments to hardware and software to suit local languages. Supporting the Unicode standard, the HP International Printing Solution enables a single device to print in virtually any language by assigning a unique number to each character, regardless of platform, program or language. Pricing and Availability HP Output Server 3.4.1 is scheduled to be available in early July starting at the estimated U.S. street price of $50,000. HP International Printing Solution is currently available at an estimated U.S. street price of $199.(1) About HP HP is a technology solutions provider to consumers, businesses and institutions globally.
