HP Showcases Technology Leadership at Intel Developer Forum Latest innovations to bring additional power, value to HP server and workstation customers SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 17, 2004As a leading worldwide server and workstation vendor and a top global sponsor at the Intel Developer Forum, HP this week is showcasing its latest industry-standard architecture innovations and the power that its relationship with Intel brings to customers. Through presentations and technology demonstrations, HP is demonstrating the industry's broadest portfolio of servers based on two complementary architectures - x86 and Intel® Itanium® processors. HP is announcing support for Intel's stated technology directions for the Itanium architecture as well as advancements in Intel Xeon™-based technologies. New Xeon advancements include 64-bit extensions, input/output, management and memory architectures that HP plans to deliver in upcoming workstation and server products. In addition, HP is announcing at IDF the achievement of another milestone in its Itanium-based server roadmap with the recent booting of the HP NonStop operating system on Itanium 2 processors. "From a customer perspective, this is all about choice and our support for industry-standard architectures. Building upon HP's rich history of innovation with Intel across the IA-32 and Itanium platforms, we will offer customers solutions utilizing the Intel Itanium 2 processors as well as Intel Xeon processors with 64-bit extension technology to provide the best performance, availability and scalability in the market," said Shane Robison, chief strategy and technology officer, HP. "No other company has more experience, or a clearer vision, to help businesses implement complete solutions - built on 32-bit and 64-bit technologies - than HP." The synchronization of business and IT through industry-standard architectures is an essential part of the HP Adaptive Enterprise strategy. The Intel processor family with both Xeon and Itanium 2 processors powers HP workstations and HP ProLiant, Integrity and, soon, NonStop servers to offer a full, standards-based portfolio for the complete breadth of customer needs. To meet the growing demand for industry standards, HP and its partners offer an array of industry-standard solutions to suit organizations of every size. As part of HP's approach to standardization, using industry-standard processors from Intel allows HP to redirect research and development toward customer value beyond the processor. HP expects 64-bit extensions to the Xeon processor to benefit workstation customers needing more memory in markets like mechanical computer-aided design, finance, digital content creation and others. Itanium-based HP workstations are targeted at computationally demanding applications, such as computer-aided engineering, that require the best available floating-point performance, as well as for Itanium software development. Adding to the world's leading server portfolio, HP recently expanded its Integrity server line with new servers to give customers an even broader industry-standard offering for infrastructure with outstanding flexibility, value and performance. Helping customers migrate to industry-standard architectures, HP provides a clear evolution path to Itanium for its AlphaServer and HP 9000 customers that encompasses hardware, software, services, partners and support efforts worldwide. HP will participate in the following Intel Developer Forum-related events:
